Default Plasma Mode?

So what mode do you have your plasma in? I run mine basically in movie mode with some custom settings based on quite a bit of trial and error.

Everyone run theirs in movie mode or do some of you run these LCD bright mode?

Movie mode...till it gets calibrated.

Edit:
As well as below...

Depends which plasma you have and how black it is to begin with. A LG 60/6650 in movie mode isn't as dark as a Samsung F8500 in standard.

Mine is in Standard mode, with some of the controls dialed down. I found that works better than in movie mode, and trying to jack the controls up.

Whenever I'm watching network television, the picture mode is set standard, and THX mode for blu-ray and DVD.

"Movie" mode with Calibration settings I got over at AVS. It looks pretty good to me.

It really depends on your lighting environment and your own personal preference. Because I use amber backlighting, my temperature setting is usually on Cool. My Samsung was on a tweaked Relax mode but on some films like Avengers for example, I play on Dynamic with the color pulled down a bit. I usually flip both noise filters off for BluRays because I want more fine detail but recently I've been playing older film titles like Trading Places on Relax with the filters on as these films have more grain in them. I like the punch... the contrast from Dynamic but it doesn't work for me on older films. I WILL go 4K when I have the cash freed up.

After calibrating, I have it running depending on what I'm watching... But since we're talking about movies... So movie mode is the answer

I have both my Sony and Sharp panels pro calibrated in movie mode. They look wonderful to me.

Custom mode until May 7th. That's when Jeff Meier from Accucal is coming to calibrate my display and sound system.

I have no sound system, I've toggled back and forth with stereo and SRS, but the HDTV's position in the room renders both hard to work with. I like my plasma, but haven't been quite as blown away by it as is hoped I would be given what it cost. But my lighting is fluctuating so often that it isn't too surprising, I suppose.

How much did it cost to get him to do that?!

In all due respects, that's probably the most inaccurate mode to watch a TV in. The dynamic mode was meant for the showroom floor, nothing more.

Is there something innate in 4K resolution that produces better contrast while set in the dynamic mode?

Yuck! That's when people start complaining about grain and other picture "flaws." Dynamic (or "Vivid") is a lousy way to watch movies.

I'd have to say I'm spoiled by my plasma. It has the best picture quality and the best black level I've ever seen on a tv! I don't know what I'll buy after it's time to replace it. By then, I'm sure they'll have something that might come close to plasma PQ.

For the calibration, it set me back $600. That includes both display and audio calibration, and the travel fee. I'm excited to see and hear what my equipment can really do! My surround sound really isn't expensive audiophile quality, but I'm happy with what I've been able to get on my budget.

Jeff did both my Plasma and Audio Cal 3 years ago and did a fantastic job on both. They both look and sound just as great today as the day he did the Cal. He is a great guy and very professional. Worth the $.

I have an LCD but I have heard on Home Theatre Geeks that movie mode is the closest to what the videos supposed to look like, then tweak it with Home Video Essentials or another calibration disk.

I have to admit going into Costco and seeing the huge TVs in there in full torch mode they look pretty good.

I keep making a mental note to try it and always forget : )
