This week's news that Amazon had yet another Warner BOGO was surprising, considering the fact that usually BOGOs ran on the same week that the HD DUD camp was celebrating a major release (see Transformers week). Also surprising was the fact that we had just had a recent Warner BOGO sale not too long ago. Add to the deal that the movie lineup was recently updated by Amazon (whose sales count on the Nielsen ratings and no one else has a similar sale where it counts) and that we had a super strong release this week with POTC 3 out on blu-ray as well.
While last week's numbers were again in favor of blu vs hd-dud, the numbers were close, but not as close at Transformers week numbers. Is it possible that Warner is trying to aide the blu camp by hosting a BOGO sale this week, the week of Disney's release, so that next week when the numbers come out the rate of defeat fo the DUD camp is so big that it demoralizes everyone? I mean from previous experiences this should be a strong week again for blue, maybe in the >75% rate. After all, isn't Warner all about numbers? If they really wanted to be blu exclusive they need data, numbers that show how much blu-ers want them, how much they're spending on their discs, how many discs people buy, etc. Reports after all are what give a product its life. I guess we can find out next week when the Bourne Ultimatum comes out if the DUD camp really has something up its sleeve. If Warner wanted to help them, they would end the blu BOGO this week and begin the HD DUD BOGO only next week. Its Toshiba's last and only chance to salvage a week this year. Chances are it won't happen, and here's a Blu-supporter hoping and wishing for a very merry Blu Christmas. My new year's resolution? To support the blu camp all the way. |

I like the way you think. My New Year's wish is that blu-ray becomes the united hdm format across the globe in 2008. First step Warner, next step... the world

Harry Potter on BD will smash Bourne AND Potter on HDDVD. There is no chance! Then, next week we have the Simpsons movie...BAAAAAMMMM!!! The rest of the year is Blu. Then at the beginning of January, Resident Evil. Then, CES 08 "Warner has finally gone Blu!" And that, my friends, is a wrap.

I don't think Warner wants to guage sales numbers in a week where they have a BOGO and Disney and FOX had 2 new releases hits. I'm not quite sure why they had a BOGO, but I doubt that they wanted to see huge numbers for Blu when there really isn't much on the other side. I think they want much more of a neutral look where things are more balanced. It's got me thinking what more do we have to do to prove to Warner that we have the strongest sales. Are they hung up on the fact the PE sells better on HD or something? Most of their titles consistently sell better on BD than HD and they're still wondering who to support...it all comes down to the Christmas season I guess...even though all year our sales are better. Warner is like that friend who doesn't always do the right thing and you're really pissed at them until they finally shape up and make it right.

Does anyone think that the Potter films on Blu wont beat Bourne? Yes, I know Potter is coming out on both formats, but I have a feeling that the Blu-Ray sales for this week will still be above HD DVD's, just because I see Potter selling pretty well on Blu-Ray.

Blu-ray has set the precedent this year by winning every week. The people have spoken with 300 and PE. They prefer blu-ray to hd-dvd. So who's to say that won't be the case for Harry and friends.

In fact, that's exactly what he's saying. Quote:
Or the current one is actually the first Warner BOGO this season. |

I'm glad to see different titles being BOGO'ed. I was getting tired of seeing the same ole list of titles, mostly Buena Vista
