Default Difference between BD-J and HDi?

I did a search but I couldn't find any useful information. What's the difference between these? Is one better then the other?

BD-J is a full-on programming language that is portable across many platforms because it's based on the open Java standard (allowing BR assets to be repurposed for other things)

HDi is Microsoft's proprietary interface that works more like Flash. It's less flexible because you can't do ground up coding, and everything has to stay inside their design

In terms of speed, HDi is a little faster to get started with, but once you build a BDJ code libary it's just as fast if not a little faster, and more flexible

BD-J coding is more complicated than HDi, but I guess it's for the better good.

One has more range in uses and does not fill Microsoft's pockets.

...I think we can stop there. This already tells you a lot. Expect your toaster to crash when you plug in an HD DVD player into the power socket.

The most obvious difference (from my rookie coder standpoint) is that hdi is essentially like writing html pages and BD-J is like writing in Visual Basic/C#. The perspective of ease of use has really been blown out of proportion, as well. True, that html is generally accessible to the most basic users (if you are formatting your posts or even host your own custom website, you are essentially using some basic building blocks of html). However, to really do up a professional looking product as a UI on a movie disc, you will need a skilled html developer just as you would need a skilled code monkey to do stuff in VB. VB isn't even that intensive a programming language, compared to a true "hardcore" programming language. It's about as high level as it gets so you can just about read it in English and get an idea of what it is trying to do.

If you see what a game programmer has to code in a high performance pc or console game, they were probably dribbling VB from their drooling mouths when they were toddlers.
