Default BD-J vs HDi

Hi,

I just want to know the technical differences between these two and why BDA did not chose HDi for BDs in the first place. I know that BD-J is more complicated than HDi but I read somewhere that it is a lot more powerful. Can you explain me these things? Thanks.

The BDA did not want to be under the control of Microsoft. Although HDi may be a bit easier and more structured, BD-J is a lot more powerful and flexible.

Thanks for the links...

so BD-J is really far more powerful than HDi - another proof that it is the superior format.

I get amazed when some fanatics say that HD DVD is the superior format. In what aspect aside from full profile implementation???

Its good but as a java programmer myself, i like seeing every single piece of code I write. I do not like auto generated code.

Programmers and disc authors will know which technology is easier and quick to implement. HDi wins BD-J hands down considering the lightweight nature of HDi.

Some trivia: HDi was designed by Microsoft and Disney. Disney wanted it on Blu-ray, but the BDA chose otherwise. HDi is actually quite cool, but does it matter? HD DVD is dead. (Personally, I think HDi would have been a smarter choice for real world disc authoring.)

Let's hope the performance of standalone players improve; the performance of BD-J authored discs on most of them are a total joke compared to PS3.
