"Sony is now planning to give the PlayStation 3 a simultaneous worldwide launch. The new system will be available with two different hard-drive options in Japan, the United States, Europe, and Australia in November. The console will hit Japan first on November 11. The 20GB model will sell for 49,980 yen (about $429), roughly $85 lower than the 59,800 yen price Sony originally announced for the console at E3 2006. Sony will allow Japanese retailers name their own price for the 60GB version. The PlayStation 3 will launch in the United States, Europe, and Australia on November 17. The 20GB version will retail for $499 and the 60GB version will retail for $599 in the US, and 499 and 599 euros in Europe, respectively." Sooo, does this mean that Europe and Australasia (Asia-Pacific) get moved back to the November release period? If so, how come it wasn't even announced officially? Or was there a press-con or did I probably miss something? Anyways, can anyone confirm/unconfirm this? |

The Europe Sony boss apologised for the delay at their private press conference. I have it on video. Don't get your hopes up...

Not that I believe in a worldwide release, but Sony Europe don't know much about what Sony Japan is planing, and they can't decide anything about the release... The Gamespot article has been updated on the 22.09.06, so if it was true, the info would be all over the internet...but it ain't. Last edited by Sidewinder; 09-24-2006 at 01:00 PM. |

Looks like Gamespot updated the article in some places but not all. I wouldn't get my hopes up as it would be all over the place if true not in some old article.

From what I know, only North America and Japan I think are still on track for a November 17th release. Sony isn't doing a global launch because Europe isn't getting any ps3's until March of 2007. Sony tried for a global launch and although they would have been the first to pull it off, it didn't happen, but they are working hard never the less.

PS3 is launching world wide, but with a small amount, much like MSFT and their Xbox 360. I remeber the Xbox 360 fiasco well. The world wide launch is a paper launch. It's a ploy that MSFT used to make Xbox fans who were unable to get Xbox 360s envyous of those who got one. E-bayers and other auction site buyers were paying over 200% retail value. Even brick and morter stores were inflating the price cause everyone "Had to have one".
The real launch of Xbox 360 was spring 2006, when Xbox 360 were readily availible. But the paper release alowed Xbox 360 to have a considerable library of games when the system was finaly fully availible. PS3 is the same ploy. To make Playstaiton fans envyous of those who got their hands on a PS3. Then when PS3 is finaly fully availible, the library will better as well. Thats the therory. However Xbox 360 was the only "next gen" system availible. No competition back in 2005. US and European, Core gamers with no alegence to any brand may end up jumping fence to a much more availible Xbox 360 come this Christmas. Sony should focus on US and Europe, Xbox 360 is already a failure in Japan. Victory is almost assured there. Wii will start creating an entirely new fan base world wide while the vast majority of Sony fans will be stuck with PS2 till fall 2007. Sony could fall to third place if they are not carefull. |

The other flaw in your theory here is simple: How does this benefit MS in any way to have Fleabayers making that kind of money instead of them? Don't you think MS would have loved to make a grand a pop on those 360's? Quote:
Where I disagree with you on that is: The software lineup was not that great and arguably didn't start to get respectable until very recently. Quote:
Sony doesn't benefit from this at all. Ebayers gouging people doesn't put extra money in Sony's pocket at all. If PS3's aren't there, people will have money burning a whole in their pocket and simply buy something else. That doesn't benefit Sony, either. Quote:

Any links or concrete documentation to back any of this up? Probably not. Last edited by JTK; 09-26-2006 at 07:18 PM. |

*speculates*
my theory is that Sony really doesnt have a shortage. After pushing back the Europe release they will be fine. They are feigning a shortage so people make sure they buy a ps3 before christmas because they will be lucky if they could..clever Sony. /speculation It would be great if I was onto something. |

They can put out 400,000 Ps3's, 2 million PS3's, whatever number it ends up being...they will all be sold out by Christmas time. SCEA knows they coughed up a year to Microsoft (?!). They know they'd better hit the ground running from the word "go." |

I'm right there with you. I'm a PC gamer first and foremost, so a lot of the so-called exclusives for any of these consoles? I get them on PC eventually, and they're usually better there anyways. All the multiplatform titles? PC for sure, unless it's something like a stray sports game or platformer or something like that. |
