Default Is a Samsung refurb the way to go now for the short term?

In another thread I noted the availability of Samsung refurb players at around $600.

I was thinking today that this might be the best stop gap player.

Consider these advatanges:

Cost the same as the 'good' PS3 but is available now. Also, who is gonna get the PS3 with no addons? Yeah so the Samsung refurb is probably the cheapest option.

It is available now where the PS3 is still at least () 7 weeks away.

The Samsung is a known quantity and the refurbs should have all the latest firmware etc. The PS3 might turn out to be something you don't want at launch either with possibly fixes needed also.

One the other hand...

What do we know about Samsung compatibility with recorded media like BD-R, BD-RE and the DL versions of each? I think I have read that it plays BD-R but there is no hard data on what it is capable of playing back.

Thoughts...?

In the thread with the Panasonic player manual, it says it can't play BD-R and BD-RE.
I find it pretty sad. One of the reasons I won't go with a first generation product.

Yeah, the Panasonic player is not the way to go for me.

Samsung at $1k was not either... Samsung at $600 is very tempting.

with the temptation sitting there i'm thinking long and hard about it. the upside to the sammy as well is that you don't have to deal with the hell that the launch will be for ps3 and can wait a bit for that. worst case, u have a bedroom set in the future

hehe... well, i would prefer to have my "good" player on my home theater and my "crappy" player in the bedroom. if i'm able to purchase the sammy cheap and then hold out for prices to come down and the purchasing hell known as the ps3 to die down (not worrying about preorders, killing people at the store to get one, etc) then moving the sammy might be one of my best options.

If they view HD DVD as short term as the XBox, it's good to stick to PS3 Xbox 360 joeorc 21 07-09-2007 06:17 AM
