Default Lol... Boxing Day Sale!!!

I just got a tip off that Futureshop will be having a clearan...... I'm sorry, a "Boxing Day" sale on one of their HD DVD players! Apparently the unspecified unit retails for $399 and will be available for $99!!!

The question now arises, which model is it? And how many is each store limited to selling? LMAO! I can't get over how desperate Toshiba is getting!!!

It is the HD-D3 and i think i will get one. What the hell $99.00 is an impulse buy, if i watch 20 films in the next year, that i can't get on Blu , it's worth it.

If you can get one... and I guess that it's better in somebody's hands that clearly prefers Blu-ray over HD DVD than somebody who would go HD DVD exclusive as a consumer.

I dont like the fact that a $99 HD DVD player is being advertised on Blu-ray.com

I understand its a sign of desprate times for Toshiba, but those weak individuals might be tempted by such "deals".

I personaly cant wait to see clearance sales at major retail stores, like Best Buy & Circuit City. Its the only time cheap HD DVD players will put a smile on my face.

Any support of HD DVD is anti Blu-ray.

Well i could wait 2 or 3 years, like you, to watch those HD-DVD exclusive films or i could start watching them now. While i am not keen on three separate movie players i think i will get one, comes with 300 and The Bourne Identity as well.

Horay for you and your purchase!

But HD DVD titles can be bought on DVD and upconverted. Until then there are over 400 blu-rays avalable for me to watch for my Hi-def fix.

Do you own all you want to see on Blu-ray?

Doubt it.

Of course not, do you?

I do however find upcoversion a poor substitute for real high def, in either format.I have the ability to upconvert with my Bluray but my Sim Audio 480p player has a far better picture.

No, I dont own all I desire, And thats what keeps me faithful to Blu-ray.

I own 165 blu-rays and love the Hi-def experience but I also feel buying a HD DVD player for the 10-15 titles I care about is counter-productive in the "format war"

As unimportant as one player is on the national sales records, thousands who think "what can one player and a few movies do? Im only one person" are prolonging this format war nonsence. And I feel strongly about my loyalties.

But thats my opinion.

Thanks for doing your part to extend the format war. :-(

Oh, and the movies you can't yet get on Blu are available on DVD, and will be available on Blu when the war is over.

Ah the format war.Up until the Paramount announcement i was waiting for Bluray to win before i bought a player, then that happened so we know that deal was for 18 months, so we know the war will last at least 18 more months so i dove in and bought a Sony s300 and i am now in double figures in films and i don't want to wait 2 years to watch Transformers and such in high def and even HD-DVD is far better than sd DVD.I continue to believe that Bluray is the better format and i hope they win but i remember Beta-VHS and Beta had better PQ and SQ and we know how that ended.
I admire your loyalty but the studios are not very loyal to you or me, it is all baout who writes the biggest check.

I was thinking of making a post on this subject as well as I just read over the flyer. I won't be buying, as the $100 can be better spent on more Blu movies IMO

Anyway, thought I'd best to mention that they also have some Blu-ray movies on sale for $19.99 too(Apparently over 100 to choose from). Maybe I'll buy 5 instead of the HD-D3

They also have the Samsung BD-P1400 on sale for $299 and Sharp BD-HP20U for $349

I will download an HD movie before buying it on HD DUD. Windows media streaming is my friend.

When I see this crap I wonder why the BDA doesn't do this as well.... I know that its crap they are selling for 99 bucks but come on.... One or two days a year wouldn't cause that much of a loss. For Boxing day people expect crazy deals ! Clear out the 1.0 players for $99 Dec 26th !

As for buying HD DVD I will never ! Im Blu till the end ! Upconversion DVD's are fine with me. I spend my money on the best !

I say we should buy as many $99 Dud players and then return them after the special is over. Lol! That would just piss off Toshiba!! Lol!! Just kidding though. I wish I was as underhanded as the Dud Fanbois (ex: the latest hack on the BDA website)

firstly: misleading
i thought you were gonna wow me with a great boxing day blu ray offer. you didnt

secondly: misplaced
i would have expected this... if anything... in the hot deals forum. its not

thirdly: unnessary
theres no reason to advertise for toshiba. and i get it was a joke but it doesnt seem like one... who knows... because of your "inside tip" a few people who might have seen this (as there are a lot of people who observe the forums) might pick one up and either go neutral or hd dvd only....

i know u didnt mean any harm i've seen u around the forums and know ur not trying to push hd dvd... its just that it might not really help anything

Next round of 99 dollar dud players comes around - I am going to buy one and destroy it. Put it on youtube for all the ants to see.

Yeah, your players are so cheap I can go buy one and destroy it and not think twice. Try that with a 400 dollar ps3! Didn't think so!
