Same. The direction really killed it. It felt like a Lifetime movie almost.

I hated the book -- I felt like I was reading a Scooby-Doo episode toward the end because of how the author handled the big reveals. But I'll give the film a chance because hopefully they can elevate the material.

I haven't read the book but I could see your criticism being valid for the movie too

these types of movies are Lifetime movies, but the key word almost. The score and editing made it feature film status.

They didn't. But I liked the book, for the most part.

Unlike GONE GIRL, I actually prefer the film of GIRL ON THE TRAIN to the book (I liked the film GONE GIRL, but preferred the book. I will definitely order GIRL ON THE TRAIN when it's released.

The editing was horrible in this movie. That stuttering every time she is drunk.

i say the editing is good because i actually felt drunk and confused for the first half of the film, which i think was what they were going for.

I adored this film. It's one of my favorites that I've seen this year (along with Don't Breathe and 10 Cloverfield Lane). I was not familiar with the book, but I was amazed at how engaged and fascinated I was with the film while watching. It really kept me guessing, the performances were all perfect (Emily's monologue in the bathroom gave me chills), and I loved the film's atmosphere. I know it's not everyone's cup of tea, but it's really the sort of thing I enjoy.

I was only a little distracted by Rachael being British in an American setting. It's never really brought up, and it does work in keeping the character isolated from everyone else, but I was always wondering what brought her to the US in the first place, and why she was still living here.

I don't yet have a 4K player, but I might get that edition to future-proof myself. This film did have some nice 35mm cinematography.
