Default PCs vs. Macs

In your opinion, which computer system is the all-around better option: a PC or a Mac? Why or why not?

I own both and could live without both but am almost 99% sure I am getting rid of my PC gaming rig. No need for games anymore at my age - besides Assassin's creed that is :-)

Anyone want a Custom Rig with a 6800 GT Video Card - 750gig HD space and much more :-)

Let me know

I think it needs to address "Operating System" rather than 'Computer System'. I can put Windows, Linux, and MacOS onto a PC easier than putting those onto a Mac.

My Windows is like a MacOS (only use it because I have to for remoting in for work applications). I customised it so it doesn't suck, which pretty much means it's the MacOS. Also have Linux on it also, for my own work tools.

So again, should be a distinction between PC vc Mac hardware, and PC vs Mac operating system.

I'm a relatively new Mac owner and I can't help but to agree with this already. I can't see myself ever buying another PC. OTOH, my wife likes my iMac a lot too so she wants one now.

I think it boils down to who likes to build and tweak their own and who likes one out of the box. I like to select my own processor, motherboard, sound card, video card, case, power supply, cooling fans, heat sinks and memory sticks. I also like to try to run my processor at whatever speed I so desire, irrespective of its rating. I don't think you can do all of this with a Mac.

On the other hand, it can sometimes take me a while to get my PC running smoothly. But that's part of the fun of it. I actually haven't built a new PC in about 4 years, though.

In work and pleasure, PC hands down. I can't stand macs and their closed architecture, let alone I hate OSX and all of their pay for service packs released each year.

It's funny though, at my office there are two of us and we are a video/graphics production company. He works on a mac, I'm all PC. I find that more times than not, he is coming to my side to do things that his Mac can't do in the video and graphics world. Or at least, not do easily. So much for Macs are best for graphics argument.

I mostly like PC's because I like that I can build them. Been doing that for 15 years now.

Well as a long time PC owner and a 2 week Mac owner - I have to say - PC. However Mac has it's pros. Each has it's cons.

Mac just left me wanting more "control". It also had quirks I just did not like. The fact that when I had a program open - it took over the menu bar. The window itself did not have it's own menu bar. I hated that with a passion.

If you want sleek, simple and all-in-one - get a Mac
If you want options, options and more options and customization - get a PC

Build it yourself or not build it yourself, you will never get me to voluntarily buy a PC again. The Mac (after 12 years of avid Windows support) has been, far and away, my best computing experience ever. Other than the iMac, Mac's video cards are upgradeable. As long as PC=Microsoft and Windows, I'm done with them.
