Is there really any difference of quality or productiveness overall between a PC and an Apple computer or is it just simply a matter of subjective personal preference?

The structure of the Mac OS, UNIX based, I believe, is such that if an application crashes, just the app crashes, not the whole system. So if something freezes, you just quit the program; you don't have to restart it, all the time (I've had to before). I use a Mac at work and a PC at home. My PC experience is much more extensive, so I'm not an expert, but every now and then when I start it up it doesn't recognize the mouse. A friend of mine who's a Mac fan said that I "must have a bad one," but I expected to hear that.
Depending on your tasks, I think there is a difference and you need to choose wisely, but for everyday usage, they are pretty much the same, in my experience. For everyday usage, I haven't noticed the greatness of the Mac that their lovers won't stop talking about. I'm neutral on all of it, but I've not known a Mac person who could shut up about Macs. This isn't a broad generalization, just summing up people I know. The worst, though, is that they can't give me a good reason for why it's so good, other than creature comforts, which I don't care about. I'm sure there are people on here with much more Mac experience than me who can speak ernestly about their qualities. |

pcs and macs macs are bassed on power pc achiture which i think is better but many will not agree the only special thing aout macs is in desing(imac) and such but u can hack os x to run on x86 plat form but the os its self is worth the 200$ more for a mac unix is windows wants to be. also u can dule boot windows and os x but do not try vista it f&*^%ks everything up also macs os u don`t need anti-virus . but if u are gaming and doings omthing els than worl of warcraft than mac isent your plat form that have some just look at site:
http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPL...&nclm=Software and you will ahve to look for softw are with mac editions but other than than it makes everything els seem like windows 2000 and the new mac os or somthing is coming out end aprial so lok for that |

i agree with ppl above, it truly depends on what you need and used to. I was a pc guy for a long time, but now that I do audio/video production macs are definately the smarter choice. once you learn the conveinent features of mac os x, you will become one of those guys that cant shut up about how good macs are.

I never used to know why people liked macs so much. Then I bought one... While not really for gaming, they run a whole lot smoother with fewer glitches along the way. My PC and my Mac are very equal on paper (processor speed, RAM, etc. etc.) but I absolutely hate my PC now. Apple is about the small things, ease of use. There are so many little things that I can do to make my Mac run so smoothly while my PC annoys me to no end. However, price is just outrageous for Macs as you can get more on a PC for a lot less money. I have yet, though, to meet someone who has payed significantly more for a Mac that doesn't regret it, including myself. One last thing, Apple's biggest thing is probably their marketing; the commercials, the design, the box, even - all that stuff is visually appealing and I think that's where some of the popularity comes from. The only bad thing is the lack of a right click (I know you can do it, but I like actually having the button to push)
-Just my two cents |

i found macs to be much more reliable and intuitive. I started my first video projects on windows and was frustrated by both the quality and efficiency. macs just work the way you want it to, and expect it to, so the computer feels natural to manipulate rather than a souped up calculator.
i know i might be overexagerating, but theres a reason mac users love their comptuers. Last edited by monkeytap; 04-02-2007 at 06:56 AM. Reason: misspelling |

PC: Gaming, basic office tasks (word processing, spreadsheet), server hosting
Mac: video production, graphics-intensive work......and most especially ABLETON!!! Music production heavily favors Mac. This is probably the reason why I want to get two Macbook black (or hopefully two Macbook Pro) laptops because I want to go into EDM music production.....for I want to be a Trance music DJ. I mean ask all the Ableton users and majority of them will use Mac to run their music software. All popular DJs (Paul Van Dyk, Sasha, Armin Van Buuren) use mac to run Ableton. So yeah, for me it would be: Mac OS X Leopard to run Ableton, Windows Vista Ultimate to run my future PC gaming rigs, Linux for my PS3 and Opera for my upcoming Nintendo Wii. |

Apple has incredible A/V software. They all come standard with iLife, which is perfect for most A/V editing. The advanced software is even more amazing. Apple's professional video editor is Final Cut Studio The Apple professional photo editor is Apple Aperture. The professional audio software is Logic Pro. As you can see, the Apple professional software is not cheap, its more than Adobe's CS3, which is 1000$. Need I say more?

The bottom line comes down to preference! MAC users only like MAC, PC users only like PC. I like MAC, but am a PC user, only because of compatibility. Gamers and people requiring the needs of many different software titles will go with PC 99% of the time (not a real stat!) whereas MAC users typically (and i stress typically!) are graphic artists/designers!
It's a great OS, i love it, just need alot of different software titles that MAC doesn't work with. However, since apple switched to Intel I don't know if that holds true 100% |

^^ See?
I read news like that from Apple and all they need to do is bridge the gap to the gamers a little bit. That's some awesome hardware right there! |

PowerPC is a derivative of the IBM POWER and the Motorola 88000. The two should not be confused. POWER actually stands for Performance Optimized With Enhanced RISC. Apple has been shipping units based upon Intel chips for over a year now. Don't expect Apple to ship anything based upon some other vendor for quite some time. It appears to be Intell all the way for the foreseeable future. Second, the PowerPC G5 (the last one Apple shipped) was based upon a derivative of the POWER4. There was no POWER5 derivative and likely never will be. Similarly there will likely never be a PowerPC derivative of the POWER6. Finally, the POWER6 chipsets are specifically desinged as server and mainframe class chips. It is extremely unlikely you will ever see them outside the server room where they are in a controlled environment. |

Apple is using Intel processors now and for the foreseable future--Core 2 Duo, Xeon, etc. In fact, while I wish they slapped in a Blu-ray drive on their current Mac Pro offering, they just released an updated Mac Pro, and it certainly rocks... http://www.apple.com/macpro/ ^^^Quad or Eight Core Intel Xeon computer running at 3.0 GHz...in a word...wow. I just recently got a 20 inch Intel Core 2 Duo iMac, and color me impressed. The thing is more smooth than any other PC offering I've witnessed, and I manage over 20,000 PCs via Microsoft's SMS as my occupation, so trust me, I know. The system, the iMac, logs in almost instantly, switches users almost instantly, handles AV projects with ease, and is a sinch to manage in terms of security and virus protection. In terms of gaming, yes, the Mac is honestly lacking in that category, but for everything else, IMHO, the Mac is so much better. |
