Received Sony Blu Ray player for Christmas, and am excited. Received a couple movies but don't want to have to purchase all movies to watch.
Unfortunately, none of the video stores around here rent Blu Ray DVD's at this time. I've never tried Netflix or Blockbuster. Which would you recommend? Do they usually have newest releases each week? Any advice will be greatly appreciated! |

I have tried both and the only thing that BB has over Netflix is that trade in deal. Where you can trade in your mailed movie for an in-store movie for free. They then log the return into the database and BB sends you your next movie that night, so it never goes through snail-mail. But, those in-store exchanges are only unlimited on their most expensive plan, so if you don't watch 3-4 movies a week that expensive plan doesn't make sense.
Other than that Netflix is a lot faster in terms of sending stuff and they do seem to have more copies available of each movie since it doesn't take as long to get new titles. I still have BB since my store is 5 minutes away but if that isn't an option for you go with Netflix. |

I just dropped Blockbuster for Netflix. I have used both for a year period, but I have decided to go back to Netflix. On nice thing netflix does it you set your preferance to blu ray and it will automatically put the blu ray version in the Q. On Blockbuster you have to select the specific Blu Ray version. Also, the netflix site is 1000x better.

I had Netflix for many years. I was very happy with their service until roughly 3 months ago. I started noticing that movies in my queue would not get delivered. What really set me off was when I had all 3 spots open and some new movies were to be released on Tuesday. So I checked in on a Tuesday and all movies in my queue that were to be released that day were already at "short wait". So I checked the next day and they were now at "long wait". My experience with "long wait" was at least two more weeks. It finally came down to this realization......what am I paying for with Netflix???
So I switched to BB about one month ago. I have received every movie that I have placed in my queue within a couple of days. The only complaint that I have with BB is that you have to manually select the Blu Ray title. For those BB customers out there, did you notice that the price just increased? I signed up at the 3 at-a-time plan for $17.99/month. I just noticed yesterday that the same plan was now $19.99/month. While I am not completely happy with the price increase, as long as they keep sending the movies out in a timely fashion, I am cool. |
