Default Your Must-Own Blu's for New All Region Player?

I finally went and got an All Region Player.

I have begun crafting my wishlist of Region B and C Blu's. I tend to favor genre stuff... horror and sci fi. But I'm curious, what are your favorite imports from across the pond? What 4 or 5 Blu's from outside the US really shine and are must-own titles?

I'd love to hear some opinions.

So far I'm looking at

Several Vincent Price Arrow titles
Anolis Hammer films
Some Pam Grier from Arrow

What are some of your favorites that you'd recommend to a new all region player owner?

second sights re animator looks a lot better than the american release. Same with arrows the burbs. Electric boogaloo, the cannon films documentary is great.

Capelight's release of Re-Animator is a little better than Second Sight's release. But, it doesn't necessarily qualify for this thread, as it's a region free disc.

Off the top of my head, I'd recommend Arrow's release of Deranged (1974) over Kino's Region A release. Arrow has better picture quality.

Oh, and I'd recommend this release of Cemetery Man (Dellamorte Dellamore): https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Della...Blu-ray/22105/

Just thought of another; this release of Texas Chainsaw Massacre has the best picture quality and is free of the minor video/audio errors present on the US release: https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/The-T...lu-ray/112252/

The version of Swamp Thing with the extra T&A is actually the version i'm accustomed to (as i've rented the now-out of circulation original DVD back in the day way before the soccer mom made a B.S. stink of it), so that Austrian blu is absolutely mandatory for me.

As for my own "genuine region locked" recommendations, Arrow's version of "Audition" is a must-have, as are the French blu-rays of "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning" and "Texas Chainsaw 3D" (both of which are completely uncut unlike the US equivalents).

Seriously, I don't have the shout release to compare, I imagine it (Shout!) does look marginally better, but I kept checking your list to see if the international cut was released somewhere, and only stumbled upon the AT release a while back. I'm not a fan of the film, just Barbeau, so that was a very important "extra" not on the US disc that should make the list IMHO.
You mean "extras" though.

I'd love to get the 3-Disc release of it but it's OOP, unfortunately. Stuck with the Image release in the meantime. It's one of my favorite 1980's horror movies.
There's many titles Arrow has released which annihilates mediocre Kino, Olive, Twilight Time, and many other local domestic releases. Especially since the first three are unnecessarily overpriced.

This was debated last time I looked into it. If I remember correctly I thought one cut looked better on the German and the other cut looked better on the UK. I forget which was which though, and it was all about compression since they're the same master.

In any case if someone is locked then yes, get the German since it's region-free. Or wait, since I feel like Re-Animator will get a label release here eventually.

I was under the impression that Capelight's release had finer grain and looked more like film across all cuts.

I mean it's all opinion, check out caps-a-holic and make your own judgment call. I just looked super briefly and the UK disc is brighter with a smidge better grain on the main cut I think. Again though, that's a quickie look at it, but I think that was where I came down on it before. Some will go German just for the darker gamma. It's up to the person.

They're the same master so it's subtle differences. They both trounce the US disc either way.

Yes, thank you. I've been looking it over. I'm looking to hear gold standard favorites that I should run, and not walk to order.

Yet, for some reason he refuses to add the Barbeaubies version of Swamp Thing (AT) to the list.

Does it look any better than the US disc?

Wait, what?

Also these are superior from the Domestically US of A releases. (Either best PQ/AQ, complete features, NOT BD-R, etc. But in certain cases if you enjoy the movie enough, it's fine to own more than one version/release of.)

Hope this excessive list helps!
