Onkyo home theater question.

Hi I'm interested in purchasing this unit,http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Onkyo...oductDetail.do but i have some questions about it. if you have any insite on this unit feel free. First question is what exactly is hdmi pass through? also if i have the reciever off will i still get video and audio through my tv if i'm using hdmi or even componet cables? this is a major point for me because a lot of viewing will be at times where i really cant have the whole system going.

it looks like a newer version of my old system. it should be pretty good. you won't get audio or video with the receiver off. but for a starter or non audiophile system it should be good.
