Default Harmony 880

I was thinking of purchasing the Harmony 880 from Best Buy since its on sale for $149 this week. I've seen lots of praises for the 880 from people that have it but are there some bad things about it?

I have a Pioneer 50" plasma, Xbox 360, Scientific Atlantic cable box, Monoprice HDMI switcher, PS3, and a DVD player from Japan just for starters. I know the Harmony won't control the PS3 since it requires bluetooth, but what about the other things? Would it control the Monoprice switcher? Anyone with bad things to say about the 880 or would this be a good purchase for me?

I just bought mine today from Best Buy. Installation was easy and it controlled every device in my home theater. Love the activities feature.

It's a great tool. I own one and I've installed about a hundred of them or so (used to be a Best Buy HT Installer). They work great. The best feature is the Help button. Sometimes the remote won't turn everything on or off because it is sending multiple signals at once. But, instead of panicking, you just hit the Help Button and it will walk you through the steps to fix the problem.

Like I said, I've installed lots of them and never had any of them give me problems. You'll love it.

Just picked up the 880 from BB and it is great! Took a little bit of tweaking but seems like it handles everything I have except the PS3. I even programmed it to control the 2 a/c's I have.

I use the 890. Great product. I use it on my Bose Lifestyle 35, Samsung 50" Plasma, Samsung 1400 BDP, Sony 5 Disk Changer and Cable Box.

I have an 880 upstairs and one downstairs, they are great, I bought both of mine off of Ebay, (brand new) much cheaper than from store..

I also bought mine from ebay. I am probably not using it to its fullest capacity, but it is a great remote. The hard-plastic buttons are nice and it fits great in my hand. Logitech seems to make constant updates to the way it interacts with its downloadable/learning features. I got it working with a tube amp from VAC, so I'm sure it will work with anything.

I have the 890, but same applies. The Bluetooth question has been solved with the following.

I control my PS3 with my Harmony 890. I bought the Nyko bluwave bluetooth remote which comes with a USB dongle.

You choose Game Console in the Harmony setup on-line, then choose Nyko as manufacturer. Then rename it to whatever you want. I named Mine PS3-BluRay

You can get the Nyko at Amazon or Newegg.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16879213018

$14.99 at Newegg.

Works so well, I already sold my PS3 remote on ebay for $20, which came with my ps3 80gb

You just plug in the USB dongle into the PS3 usb port, synch it with the harmony, and toss the Nyko remote in the drawer not to be looked at again.

Grab it and the 880, you'll be happy you did. I have the 890 downstairs and the 720 upstairs. I also gifted an 880 I nabbed off dell for $112 last month for my bro-in-law, and he loves it.

Happy New Year,
Joe

Couple of things - you said you use the Nyko USB control with your 890. The 890 has RF extender. The 880 does not. It is IR. I am going to assume this Nyko thing is RF?

Also, from what I am reading, it does not allow you to turn on/off the ps3 with it. No PS button.

Please confirm, thanks!

No, it is IR, and I taped one of the rf extender wires to the front of the USB Dongle.

So for the 880, it will work IR.

Nope, no on/off button, but the rule in our house is no bd left in the drive. Still have to get up and put one in, so not a big deal. Better than using a controller as a remote.

The two functions that are not available using the Nyko/Harmony 880/890 is the power ON/OFF on the PS3. That is not supported by the Nyko anyway.

The 880 absolutely rocks. Blu Steal - I think they have some minor issues with some of the cradles. What works for me is placing a few coasters underneath one end of the cradle so that it is on a slight angle (contacts on the lower side of the cradle).

I believe Logitech may be replacing cradles with this problem, but for me it's too much hassle for such an easy fix

They are nice when they work... I'm now on my third 880 and it seems to do well. Logitech even let me keep the old one (deactivated), but I have a spare cradle/cables/PSU/remote and battery

The 890 addressed this issue.

Logitech deactivated the device... in other words, it cannot be reprogrammed and the IR emitters stopped functioning (that was the problem with it).

I'm the same way -- I don't need one that works, I need spare parts. Actually, I need a new case for mine. Let's just say teenagers and hardwood floors are rough on a remote. My glass is broken.
