Good news (and reminds me I should stop dragging my feet on '84!)

Day one for me.

I still want a widescreen transfer of GIDGET (1959), which has never happened on home video. The old Sony box set presented the Gidget films in full frame.

Awesome!

I'm with you with Gidget too! The DVD set was all pan-and-scan (I think) and I want all of 'em in Widescreen!

GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN is available as a widescreen MOD from Sony. The other two aren't yet available on home video in their OARs.

Are they going to release "Where the Boys aren't" (1989) also?

Love this movie! Perfect double feature with A Summer Place (which we still need on Blu)

I haven't checked my "The Complete Gidget Collection" in a while, but I thought all Three of them were Pan & Scan?

All three films in the Sony GIDGET box set are indeed P&S.

Some years later, the Sony MOD (manufacture on demand) program released a stand-alone disc of GIDGET GOES HAWAIIAN that is in widescreen.

Right now, I don't recall if it's letterboxed or anamorphic, but the stand-alone edition is a definite improvement over the Sony box set.

I was hoping that GIDGET and GIDGET GOES TO ROME would follow at some point, but that hasn't happened.

I'll check that out! Thanx.

It seems odd to me that the First movie wasn't released in WS. Such a great film!

I've only spot-checked mine, but it looks fine. I'll reserve a place for the widescreen GIDGET (1959) next to it on my shelf.

I'll get mine soon, hopefully. I love this movie. Depending on you criteria, it may sorta technically be the first Beach Movie.

WS Gidget would be great! Another under-appreciated film. And a lot more adult than people give it credit for! My wife was not all that interested in seeing it and after we watched the pan-and-scan version, she loved it! And even stranger, she REALLY loved the TV Series with Sally!

I'd vote for GIDGET as being the first "modern Beach Party" film, as it was 1959 (WHERE THE BOYS ARE is 1960, I believe).

This will be the first proper release of GIDGET, which has always been panned-and-scanned on home video.

Did I miss something? Are you saying there is going to be a "proper release of GIDGET?"

Edit:

Holy moly, you're right!

Proper it shall be. It was so disappointing when Sony released that old GIDGET box set with all three films panned-and-scanned. Most fans of the films actually didn't buy that box set, for that reason.

Although specs have yet to be announced by Twilight Time, I assume that the film will be remastered in CinemaScope.

A year or two ago, there was a fun documentary released on DVD entitled GIDGET: THE ACCIDENTAL ICON. It was about the real-life Gidget and her father, who wrote the popular book about her. Actors James "Moondoggie" Darren and Cliff Robertson, who starred in GIDGET, appeared in the documentary.
