PS3 Internet Browser - Poor Performance - Help?

I have a PS3 wirelessly connected to my modem/router (NetGear DG834PN). Right beside the PS3 on the same shelf is a Nintendo Wii, about 20 foot from the router.. The performance on my laptop/Wii Internet Browser is much better than the PS3 (they are all wirelessly connected), even though in hardware terms the PS3 runs rings about the Wii. I have reviewed some other threads and tweaked the PS3 settings, for example I've turned off uPNP, given it a static ip address, Media Server off ....but still it's not as fast as the Wii although those changes did make a noticable improvement - I still want more...for instance getting to blu-ray.com is very slow (circa 20 secs) whereas 5 secs on Wii/Laptop. Are my expectations unrealistic? Is there something else I can try.

I don't have the Info Bar enabled, system uses NAT2, and checking for the the latest system update takes an instance (but downloading it takes an age - often I download using the laptop and USB it to the PS3 currently latest firmware 2.1 I think). The PSN seems a bit hit or mess, with the system signing in some days ok and the next the operation timing out. Not sure if there is an underlying root cause between that issue and the general sluggishness of the PS3 browser.

I've gone to the speedtest website and checked the wii and ps 3 and the PS3 is slower (can't remember specific figure). Its 40GB PS3 and I use it mainly for movies and the odd game but do like the option of checking out the internet.

Does anyone experience a similar issue? and words of wisdom, things to try.

I switched to this exact model of router over the weekend from a D-link, and got the same problem, but found a fix.

1. The first step is to give your PS3 a static Ip address. All the info you need to do so should be found on your computer by running command prompt and typing "ipconfig /all". Enter the DNS server and all the other info from there it asks for, but then pick the IP address yourself, make sure it is in range of what your router is set to, I went with 192.168.1.105, unless you have more than 4 computers that number would be fine.

2. On the router setting page (192.168.1.1 in the internet address bar) under port forwarding, forward ports 80, 443, 5223, 3478-3479, and 3658 to the static IP address you gave the PS3.Give the forwards a name, any you wish.Be sure to check enable beside it.
3. Still on the router settings page go to "administration" then "management" and disable UPnP

You should then be fixed and the PS3 should tell you it is a NAT2 connection

Please note I have not completed step 2 as my router is different to the D-Link and my rules by default allow traffic both ways as far as I know. Any tips/guidance appreciated. Thanks.

I have a Linksys WRT54G version 6.

When I had one PS3 it was incredibly slow doing anything on the network. I disabled the media server, and then did the port forwarding thing and couldn't believe how much faster it was.

I picked up a second PS3 last week and now I have the problem where you can't forward ports to two separate IP addresses - so I had to disable it and its back to being very slow - slow meaning when I download a demo or something from the store - I see 1mb come through every 3-5 seconds. I literally queue everything up and wait until the next day.

I just upgraded the firmware on the router and that didn't help.

I haven't tried the browser much - got discouraged just trying to go to nfl.com and getting out of memory errors.

The PS3 browser is a bit slow, it's nowhere near as quick as my laptop. don't know why, I hope it's something they can fix. I also wish they'd get support for java too.

seems the RAM allocation is flawed, the cache fills too fast, making some sites (Gamespot for example) not usable

I wrote the post that you refered to at the bottom of your post and although your router accepts traffic both ways, I would still suggest doing step # 2. Having the ports the Playstation network uses forwarded without being blocked is optimal.

Although it may not help for the general internet browsing it will improve the speed on the playstation network, downloading firmware, and playing games online.

I think are browser problem but, in my opinion, with verisons 2 and 2.10 seems much faster then before. I hope they are still working on that.
Anyway, is much faster then XBOX WEB Browser
