Not even sure if this is the appropriate forum for this so, mods, feel free to move this if necessary.
My bedroom TV is a Mitsubishi WD-65C8 DLP (2009). Other than replacing the lamps a few times, it's had no issues until recently. About six months ago, the buttons didn't just stop working, what happened is that if you pressed any of them, the audio out to the soundbar would fail and the message that the speakers were off would pop-up on the screen and stay there even if I turned the speakers back on. The solution was simple. I unplugged the TV, let it reboot and the set worked fine with the remote, just don't touch the buttons. I've had to deal with this a few times since as my kids have inadvertently pressed the buttons and I've had to repeat the reboot process. Obviously, this shouldn't be happening and there's an issue, but the band-aid repair was working and I really had no intention in investing in a seven year-old set when it worked fine other than that issue. Well, on Saturday, the entire display began having horizontal lines flickering throughout. I checked the other HDMI inputs and the result was the same regardless of what media device was connected. Turning off the set made no difference. This morning, for giggles, I unplugged it and reboot it and just like the button issue, it cleared itself up. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here? Something is obviously failing and I'm curious as to whether or not it's an easy fix with the right part. And before anyone says, "it's probably not worth repairing, just get a new set," I'm way ahead if you. I've already ordered a 65" Samsung 4K LED to replace it. Honestly, I just want to be able to justify this purchase to my wife with an accurate explanation of what's causing the issue. Thanks for your input in advance! |

Always worth to check firmware updates, there was a critical update a couple of years ago to all C models. also some preventative maintenance is suggested, open the panel in the back and check for excess dust in there. there are videos on youtube showing what to do. I have a similar model but C9 and just recently it started shutting of by itself with a red light, often I just turn it on and off and it stops but sometimes I have to unplug it out of the outlet for a min or 2 for it to stop. I assume also those TV sets are reaching their end of life cycle too (about 8 to 10 years).

I went to to the doocuments/downloads page for my model and all it has PDFs for manuals and spec sheets. Would you happen to have a link? |
