Default Do you think that the announcement will boost PS3 sales?

Will PS3 sales get a boost and beat the 360....?

Will the average consumer prefer a stand alone....?

Will MS release a BD addon for the 360 to counter the PS3....?

discuss

I personally hope that people on the fence now chose a PS3 over an xbox360, but something tells me that some might prefer a stand alone player....

I have no dought what so ever. When new HDM adaptors walk into a BB and inquire about a BD player, they will probably be informed that they can have games and movies too....

This whole thing is going to snowball for Blu-ray!

That is what I am hoping for.... Although Jap was always PS3 and Europe seems to be drastically shifting in favor of the PS3, It seems that no matter what we still weren't making any headway with the PS3 here in the US... Hopefully that changes now...

I'm a huge Blu-Ray supporter but I don't think this will have a very big effect on PS3 sales. The PS3 is still first and foremost a gaming machine. While a LOT of people use it to watch movies, gaming content will still dictate sales of the console.

That said, if we compare the PS3's 2008 game release schedule to that of the Xbox 360's, I think PS3 is going to have the edge in both movie and gaming content.

Personally, I think that the ps2's reputation as a faulty piece of hardware, and it's general crappiness as a DVD player may turn some potential buyers towards a standalone player.

Initially, I had no intention of using my ps3 as a video player, because I knew that it was watching DVDs on my ps2 that gave me DREs. After a good amount of time with my ps3, I realized that it truly is a beast of a machine, and after hearing absolutely nothing in regards to hardware failures on the net, I finally dared to watch a movie on it. I haven't stopped since, until my ps3 broke last week...

You know what, I'm going to stop talking now, because I'm scaring myself into not using my ps3 as a player anymore, lol.

This will be a boost for both PS3 and stand alone players. This is going to be a boost for anything related to blu.

Indeed. I think there are/were a LOT of people on the fence about HDM...and now that there will be ONE (Blu) FORMAT TO RULE THEM ALL, the fence sitters will finally commit. The PS3 is the most economical choice when it comes to BD players.

Blu is having a killer year no doubt! In the last two weeks I have upgraded my sony 300 with a panasonic 30, a PS3 and 3 more movies. Warner has made me feel a little better in the wallet knowing I made a good investment.

You are not looking in the long term.

Now that Blu wins, think of the next 10 years.

HDTV, HDTV, all you see in people house is HDTV.

Blu-ray, Blu-ray, all you see in people house is Blu-ray.

Hi-def games, hi-def games, wouldn't it be cool to get one?

Wii ?? No, that is not hi-def. Wii-remote technology?? Its days are numbers.

Also, keep this in mind. Nintendo did not plan to win this gaming war, if they did they wouldn't say. "We're not going for high graphics." They only intend to innovate how people play games. That is exactly what they did, and it's cool that they are winning now.

They get the first laugh, but PS3 will win in the long run.

If the games don't sell, than Blu-ray will. PS3 is a win win deal either way.

I think it will. My co-worker used to owned a Xbox360 and he was thinking about getting a Blu-ray player, so I convinced him to buy a PS3 and he sold his Xbox360 and now he's very happy!

PS3 definitely. More people are getting into HD now, and it's everything they need/want right out of the box.

360 no because it's associated with HD DVD, and there are no killer games coming out this year.

Wii sucks. But it will sell, for some retarded reason.

The PS3 will get 5 HUGE boosts this year:

1) Because the War is OVER
2) Because the good exclusive games are FINALLY coming out
3) When they get DTS-HD MA functionality
4) When they inevitably drop the price (Q4) to 299$ and 399$ respectively
5) Because it's FINALLY being bundled free with some HDTV's

Will PS3 sales get a boost and beat the 360....? Eventually but that was going to happen anyway. GT+GTA....

Will the average consumer prefer a stand alone....? Yes.

Will MS release a BD addon for the 360 to counter the PS3....? No. But who knows they are only into the money and can easily get rid of their lousy corporate image.
