Snow Dogs is being released for the first time on Blu-ray as a DMC exclusive, available starting 1/2/18 :
Exclusive rights for sale are to Disney Movie Club Members but surely other copies will go for an increased price on 3rd party sites.

All in all, people average about 8-9 Disney (or Disney-owned) titles for anywhere from $78-90 depending on how it's planned out and what specials are happening.
I find this movie fun and entertaining. What will be interesting to see though is whether the Blu transfer will feature the same zoomed-and-cropped thing they did for the Digital HD. It certainly shouldn't (it should never have been done that way on Digital HD either seeing as this movie was certainly filmed in proper widescreen). But one never knows with Disney.
Unfortunately this Blu has the same problem as the Digital HD. It's seemingly slightly wider than the old pan-and-scan DVD, but they cropped the top and bottom in order to basically fit the old pan-and-scan scan into widescreen format. It is NOT the true widescreen of the film but a zoomed in/cropped version of the 1.33 version. This makes me really mad and should be unacceptable to any viewer. This isn't some old pre-widescreen made-for-TV film. It's from the early 2000's and Disney cheating and not giving us the real widescreen print of this film but just lopping off the top and bottom is TERRIBLE. It makes the framing all wrong (i.e. on closeups of faces, tops of heads/hair are chopped off etc.) Anyone that paid $25 for this got ripped off and should prob let Disney know how they feel.

Yes, that's it exactly, and I've realized that I guess the problem is maybe that I just didn't understand some of this stuff. I knew in the back of my mind that there were movies that were done this way with that whole matting thing, but I thought that was a long ago thing - not a movie from 2002. I mean I love my widescreen as much as the next guy, but it's real disconcerting when you own a fullscreen DVD and then discover that you actually LOSE a noticeable chunk of picture information going to the widescreen. In reading up on stuff tho, I realize that the whole filming in full screen and matting for widescreen thing still happens sometimes. So maybe that is how Snow Dogs was done and if so, I take back my comment. It still irks me though...

The important thing to keep in mind is how the Director wanted you to see the film. It's not uncommon for films to be shot in a ratio other than what ends up on screens. If you watch bonus features for many modern cinemascope films and catch a glimpse of what the editor has in front of them, you will often see an "open matte" ratio that they're working with. Director Brian Levant likely framed every shot and edited the film with the 1.85:1 matted ratio in mind. But if you're used to seeing it in open matte fullscreen, the shots will likely feel tighter than you're used to.
