Talking how much do you think it's gonna be in 6 months?

I bought Sony S301 for $279 at Costco around 2 weeks ago. I'm wondering where that price's going to. I mean, I saw the format war seems to be over and expect the price of Blu ray player is supposed to be either up or down in short time range. I can return it, get full refund, and wait till the price is much down in 6 months if it is sure to be down. I want to know how much you guys think it's gonna be in 6 months.

I think you will see new models come out, but the prices are rock bottom already. I paid $269.99 for my Samsung BD-P1400 PLUS I got 5 discs FREE, at least another $100 value. How much cheaper can they get at the beginning of their technological lives? This one cost me less than my Pioneer Elite Upscaling player I bought about a year or so ago.

I agree, I don't think prices will go down that much. With MUCH higher prices already, Blu still has won the format war, why lower prices?

That sony at costco was with a $100 off manufacturer's rebate though. But I do think that it could be priced lower than that to make room for new 1.1 players.

If you look at BB and CC today the prices have gone back up. So you did get a deal.

I think they will lower better models to the same range. Why? Because these models lack the profile 1.1 playback. When they get 1.1 players under $300, then people will not hesitate to buy them. Perhaps even a 2.0 model as well, since some people might be interested in online content by then which is missing on all existing players.

I agree with you that people will not hesitate to do so on new models under $300. But you mean better models that could perhaps have 1.1 playback to the same price range is going around within 6 months ?

You'll see baseline 1.1 models at $199 by Christmas, under $400 for the really loaded 2.0 decks I'd think

One thing is for sure. In 2008 we'll see at least 2 manufacturers release players between $200 and $300. Funai and Daewoo. I'm sure that more CE companies will release players that will initially retail between $300 and $400 such as Samsung, Sony, JVC, Sharp and maybe even Panasonic, but all of these players will dip below $300 later on in the year. Of course this doesn't meant the many of the major companies won't have higher end units available as well.
