Default Paramount/DreamWorks - no new releases at CES

Late today, it looks like Paramount and Dreamworks said even though they are still supporting HD-DVD(as if they have a choice)they are not announcing any new titles at CES like they had planned. Just another twist in the overall big picture.

Paramount/DreamWorks: "Still Supporting HD DVD" [UPDATED]

Tags: CES 2008, Paramount, DreamWorks (all tags)

UPDATE: We have received word from Paramount/DreamWorks that although they continue to support HD DVD, they will not be making any new high-def title announcements at CES 2008.

Paramount/DreamWorks responded to Warner's shift to Blu-ray exclusivity today, saying that the studios have no plans to abandon the HD DVD format.

Following Warner's shocking defection to Blu-ray last Friday, and the subsequent cancellation by the HD DVD Promotions Group of its planned CES media event Sunday night, speculation has run rampant regarding Paramount's next move, as well as the fate of any HD DVD title announcements they had originally planned for CES.

High-Def Digest contacted Paramount for comment, and we were told by a spokesperson that despite the events of the past few days, "we are still supporting HD DVD," and that neither Paramount nor DreamWorks had any further statements on the matter at this time.

As for any Paramount HD DVD title announcements originally planned for CES, at press time any such plans were "up in the air." Needless to say, we'll keep you posted.

Yeah, I just read this a few moments ago on highdefdigest. Funny how Universal is still very quiet and if you read between the lines they said they will still support it, but never stated they will support HD-DVD exclusively.

Yes, I think they are saying as much as we are reading into it also. I tried to post a link, but screwed that up.

its funny that they are supporting the format but not announcing any titles at CES08 which would have been the perfect time. Its even better to hear that Uni issued a "no comment" when asked about hd-dvd.....bda conference may have some very very interesting announcements for us blu guys/gals

Negotiation position. Maybe they can get some IP from the BDA for flipping back. More likely they are looking up good recipes for crow.

maybe they're waiting for universal to switch first so they don't look like too big of an a-hole

No question ( ) that the Uni comment or lack of has more meaning also than "bug off". I think all this week, the tidbits of info may add up to the bigger picture of what we shall see soon for Blu.

They can't do anything. Legally. They probably would be in BIG breatch if they even think of going neutral, let alone blu exclusive.

I have no sympathy for them. Let them rot for all I care.

Do not be surprised if Universal shows up at the BD conference and announce they are now neutral or exclusive to BD. I am telling you, something is up.

Default Paramount is as Paramount does

They will ditch HD-DUD like a dirt at any moment.
Just like they did when they ditched Blu-ray last year.

Sad thing about paramount.
I don't respect them if they do such a move.

They have what, 3-4 titles they had previously announced? Betcha that's all HD-DVD will be getting from now on. I also like the lack of the word exclusive.

Do you think the BDA is working on Universal in the background. Seem like a good time to do it.

Reading that article it says that they will still support HDDVD, but it does not say anything about not supporting blu-ray. So I guess we will jsut have to wait and see what happens in the next days and weeks.
