Default Scream Factory's The Vampire and the Ballerina

I just received my copy today. Both Italian and English audio tracks are available as options, as are removable English subtitles.

The credit crawl is in Italian only. The subtitles are yellow.

There is also an 8mm short version which runs nearly ten minutes. The title card is in English, and the short has English subtitles but no audio.

Image quality looks fine for such an old horror flick. The disc was mastered in 2K from Italian film elements.

I'm ecstatic to hear that. It seemed that it was only the English dub originally. That fact makes this one of my more anticipated releases now.

Excellent news! I can finally retire my Italian DVD (and the homemade bootleg I once did of it adding the English audio from a VHS tape.

I really, really hope this sells well enough for Scream to seek out more classic Italian gothic horror (The Bloody Pit of Horror would be amazing!). But to be honest, I think us fans of that particular niche only make up a tiny subset of the already diminutive subset of classic horror fans. I fear they will only sell something like 22 copies in all.

I am very happy to see this one getting a release. I pre-ordered from Amazon, so I have a couple of weeks of waiting still. Glad to hear of dual language options.

PQ is very good, with only a few speckles and a couple instances of damage to the print. The B&W photography is uniformly excellent, although not to the level of Bava's BLACK SUNDAY. So happy to have this rarity in my collection!

It did turn out nicely and major kudos for Scream to go after this and get the film a decent release in the states.
They had to do their own transfer and who knows if anyone will ever access the Italian negative for a HD transfer to better that Scream has given us.

*34 years assuming this was 1984, haha.

Not sure if that’s part of your signature or a statement related to this, so apologies if this was in fact 50 years ago.

Also that’s AWESOME.

I got a super8 projector and a handful of 200’ highlight reels for CHRISTMAS 1970.

Technically, I guess I should change my signature. 1984 marked the year I got my first VCR.

Watched "The Vampire and the Ballerina" last night. Shout/Scream did a great job with the sound and image quality. I wish there was a Tim Lucas or Commentary or Extra telling about this film. I only knew of it from pictures I saw as a teen in a 1960s issue of Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine.

Now I wish Shout/Scream would find and do similar high quality work with "Werewolf in a Girls Dormitory"

Agreed, that woudl be a great title for Blu.
I was just watching the Italian DVD LYCANTHROPUS the other day.
It's almost a proto giallo with a werewolf twist, and Barbara Lass is a stunner.

BALLERINA could really have used some more attention ( still, a very nice release ).
It's the 1st of a trio of vampire films made by Renato Poselli between 1960-1964, half a decade before he started cranking out some of the most outrageous, colorful and un PC films to come out of the 70's exploitation era.

it would be great if the 2nd & 3rd films could get an upgrade & a Blu release.

Any place to get this at a normal price ? Is Monster of the Opera Blu-ray from that danza set a sequel ? Think Severin will ever do a individual release ? probably not i'm thinking .

So many of these euro gems with no blu-ray . rights holders suck !

I wonder if Kino has the rights now since they seem to trade off with each other .

I wouldn't say that MONSTER OF THE OPERA is a sequel to VAMPIRE AND THE BALLERINA.

Ok , Must have read something wrong , Some had posted on here or somewhere .

Ballerina looked a little boring , watched some of it on youtube and the trailer . The monster of the opera looks a lot more interesting , what do you think ?

I enjoy them both, though MONSTER OF THE OPERA is a bit wilder.

After watching Ballerina I sold my blu-ray. Haven't seen Opera yet but always hope to be entertained.
