Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway (2021)

Sony’s Peter Rabbit 2 is slated for release in 2020. The original adaptation of the beloved Beatrix Potter tale hopped into theaters in February, and while it was largely overshadowed by the colossal success of Black Panther, it still had an admirable run in its own right as one of the highest-grossing movies of 2018 so far. It grossed $115 million domestically off a reported budget of $50 million, and drew solid reviews, giving Sony enough satisfaction to greenlight the sequel.

Peter Rabbit 2 is slated for a February 7, 2020 release date. It’s expected to come out alongside titles like Paramount’s The Loud House adaptation and a mysterious Warner Bros. release only reported as “Event Film #3”. Writer-director Will Gluck is also expected to return and again helm both duties for the sequel.

Voice actors such as Daisy Ridley (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) and Elizabeth Debicki (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) are also expected to return.

Peter Rabbit 2 will also reach theaters on March 27, 2020 in the U.K.

Also, quite enjoyed the first Peter Rabbit movie. I expected it to be awful so hopes were below low. I was pleasantly surprised.

Christ you are unbelivably precious about film criticism, aren't you JLF? For the record only one person has offered an opinion on the first film (drush) and he offered no information on whether he has seen the film or not, so don't jump to conclusions.

I personally have not seen the first film, purely because it's been one of the most heavily criticised films of 2018 so far here in the UK, but my comment above has nothing to do with the film itself, I was just expressing shock at it being a hit after such a scathing critical reception (here in the UK).

Yeah us Brits are obviously a bit closer to the source material and it seems critics really hated how it altered Beatrix Potter's world. Seen critics accuse it of being a cynical cash-in on the success of Paddington but without the adherence to the spirit of the source material that franchise has. Lots of complaints about Peter being portrayed as a bully, one reviewer actually suggest he was a psychopath! So yeah, reaction was a little extreme in places. Didn't really inspire me to check it out.

As an American and a kid once who read the books... Peter Rabbit the movie was a dumbed down contemporized adaptation that resembles more of the live action turds of the Chipmunks and The Smurfs. The books were timeless and had heart and class.... and this movie singlehandedly dated the story into cringeworthy oblivion. It coulda been so much more than just a stupid kiddie flick for the easily amused children of our day and age.

I recall only one lop-ear bunny character in the first film. Hopefully, they integrate more lop-ear bunnies in the sequel, since they are a personal favorite of mine.
