Here's a little video that comparatively shows a DVD uponversion stream from both systems. Unfortunately, the one capturing the video decided to use a 2d animation clip as his/her test material instead of live action footage. But, nevertheless, I can clearly see that when I paused it at certain points where a comparative image line is drawn through the disection barrier it is clear that the Xbox360 image is clearly softer and a bit fuzzier than the PS3 image... especially in the opening logo where the silver glob is morphing. The foreground colouring of the two images are impressively close to one another, I'll give you that. However, the primary colours on the Xbox360 stream do seem a tad too dark. The sky and water are TOO dark of a blue on the Xbox360. The PS3 seems to create a more realistic slightly faded tint to those elements.
http://www.stage6.com/user/nanahikar...ert-(HDMI-720p Somebody on another forum I visit is trying to tell me that the contrast on the PS3 "washes everything out" and I'm trying to tell him that that "wash out" is more realistic to a real lighting situation. There is no way the sky or water ever looks as dark as it is in the Xbox360 stream, but it often looks EXACTLY as it does in the "washed out" PS3 image. |

The 360 doesn't deinterlace DVD's properly so whenever anything moves or especially when the whole picture pans you get that 'fuzziness' most noticeable on the highly contrasting thin details like the black lines in that video. Back when I got my 360 at Euro launch I popped in The Aviator and saw the same thing. I don't think they've improved the DVD player since.

ya, the problem is most visible when viewing anime or anything with clear/contrasty black lines
but it's not as bad as ppl put it i tried watching the dvds from bladerunner BD on xbox (latest firmware) and i won't complain about the quality (however, I did watch it on a tiny screen haha) |
