Default New passion now that Blu-ray has won!!

I have been a huge Blu-supporter and will continue to do so. But now with Blu-victory at hand we are going to see J6P migration to Blu.

That means that there will be many new Blu-stand alone players sold but also many PS3 players. Just like it has been speculated that many did not know that PS3 where in fact blu-players as well, we now need to get out the word that PS3 have an even bigger function within it's body "Folding @home.

Of course I realize many of you know this already but this is aimed at the new PS3 owner. Let's watch movies and let's play games but when we are asleep and at work please let's help save lives one day.

I have said this before the most wonderful lady who was going to be my future mother in law passed away last April 5 due to that horrible disease.

You can join any team you like it doesn't matter but if you want to show this site has served a bigger purpose then join team 56895

I know almost everyone here has lost someone to cancer or knows of someone so in they're memory please lets do:

Folding@home

Thanks Mystic. I too have lost someone to cancer, my sister. 2 of my aunts have cancer right now. My grandfather died from alzheimer's disease a few years ago as well. I think we should all support Folding@Home to help find cures for these and other diseases, so fewer people will have to grow up never knowing who their sister was, or to find that their father does not remember who they are anymore.

I have 2 PS3s and leave one of them folding@home 24/7 but I'm on a different team though. Anyway, I really like the folding@home app on the PS3. Being able to see the PS3s that are folding is pretty cool.

Here is the main site if you want to check out what folding@home is all about: http://folding.stanford.edu/

Results so far are here (although fairly technical): http://folding.stanford.edu/English/Papers

I have never used folding@home

the only reason why...is because the agreement says I am responsible for what they do under that time....

I'd like nothing more than to use this...but they can't put something like that in there...

for all I know, they are watching kiddie pron...

I might get bashed for spouting off negativity on something that is supposed to be pure goodness...but you really have to cover your bases here...

they need to take that out of the agreement..

This is an excellent post. I used to run it, but stopped a few months back to try to be more 'green'. Maybe I'll just plant a few trees in the back yard, join this team and start folding again.

I fold on my PS3 whenever I am not using it which is all night and day while I am at work , not to mention I have my work PC and home PC's set up with it...I've managed to creep up to #20 spot on the blu-ray.com team

I am so sorry to hear that please know that you will be in my prayers tonight.
As to what team your on hell it doesn't matter. This is one team I am willing to lose as long as in the end no one ever has to wake up crying like I still do.

yeah...this is the alternative I've taken...

I power down everything when I am not home and everything connected to the power surge...

if you don't Fold, you should at least look at green as an alternative...and avoid companies that use "going green" as a gimmick..

Think of it this way. If your block is one of a hundred that is responsible for the key to unlocking the mystery of protein folding, you get credited for donating your PS3 time.

Wish I had a 40GB PS3 so that I can do more folding.

Good thread. I try to fold when I can, but I try to conserve energy as well, so I don't get anywhere the numbers some of the folks here do. But I make an attempt every year to donate a chunk of money to the American Cancer Society.

I actually have my PS3 and Mac Folding. I turn them off like for 4 hours every day so they don't over work themselves but the rest of the time they're both Folding.

P.S. I can't seem to find my name on the PS3 team even though I have 8 completed works on my PS3

Well, if you have a PS3, you should have a PSN ID to get to the PSN store and also to play online games.

This PSN ID is also used on F@H. Using the F@H website, you can look at your progress at folding. Included in the page is the block of folding data that you contribute to. So that's how they know who to credit, if they are giving credit.

I used to fold my PS3 24/7 until my dad came back from vacaction. Because my PS3 is in the living room and the cable is near his room, and he's afraid he might one day trip on PS3 cable and fell and kill himself.

And let's not forget that keeping the PS3 running keeps the inside from collecting dust. The fans constantly running doesn't allow much dust to settle. Most of it just passes right through the unit! So, FOLDING@HOME not only benefits the scientific community with their biological research, it also helps protect your electronic investment!

first, im sorry for your lost mystik, and cptgreedle. i would love to fold 24/7 but i live at home, and i dont think my parents would be to happy to see the light bill, i guess i could devote an 8 hour day to folding instead of playing a game.

Whenever the PS3 isn't being used for movies, it's folding. I also use my MAC to fold, though it seems to take a lot longer to complete a work unit on the MAC. I've climbed up to 85 on the team page, pretty pleased with that one.
