I guess I am going to have to stop making fun of DUD and saying all they will have left is bollywood region free discs to watch in 6 months.

They won't even have that!

I highly recommend Saawariya to first time Bollywood viewers. It has awesome visuals and even better soundtrack. On the other hand, if you are looking for a cheesy kinda flick, go with Om Shanti Om. It stars Shah Rukh Khan and is the highest grossing overseas Bolly film yet. Shah Rukh Khan is like the Tom Cruise of India.

BTW, Om Shanti Om has the 70s Bolly appeal to it. The songs are good too.

Like it or not, bollywood is the largest content maker in the world. Shame HD-DVD will die before making it to bollywood.

That's a good one!

I was VERY happy to hear that Bollywood movies are coming to Blu-ray. I want Devdas, Shabd, Daag: The Fire, Bride & Prejudice, Main Hoon Na, Veer-Zaara, and Pakeezah (among others)! I can't wait...bring it on!

I think personally the main films i would love to see are the recent hits

Dhoom 2
Don
Krrish

These are really one's that deserve the Blu treatment to showcase modern bollywood films to a western audience & of course theres great classics like some of the one's members have mentioned that deserver a Blu treatment too

Default Bollywood Blooms on Blu-ray with 'Om Shanti Om'

Quote:
Making their high-def debut, Eros Entertainment says they will bring the Bollywood sensation 'Om Shanti Om' to Blu-ray later this month.

The film, which broke box office records in its native India and played to packed theaters here in the US during its limited theatrical release this past November, will hit Blu-ray on January 22, day-and-date with the DVD version.

Specs for the Blu-ray version were still sketchy at press time, with 1080p video and a collection of trailers the only confirmed details.

Eros has set a suggested retail price for the disc of $24.95.

As always, you'll find disc details for 'Om Shanti Om' linked from our Blu-ray Release Schedule, where it's indexed under January 22, 2008.

We've also set up a dedicated thread for Eros' next-gen debut in our Forums area -- click the following link to discuss the 'Om Shanti Om' Blu-ray release.

An SRP of $24.95 is amazing. Fans of Bollywood will be jumping for joy if those are going to be common prices. That would be about $17.50 retail on Amazon.

I wonder what the Blu-ray situation is in India? Any Indians on the board?

Eros Entertainment is one of India's biggest production/distributers of indian cinema and they have a indian movie libary to die for. This movies was one of the biggest hit in indian cinema last year and stared one of the biggest actors in mainstream bollywood.
I can gurantee that this would sell like crazy and at the price that Amazon is selling it for its a steal at 17.99.
If this sell good expect to see more titles coming from bollywood.

I am not sure about the BD situation in India but I can tell you that Indian cinema is all over Asia and this movie will sell just because of the star in this movie.

While it may be true that not many people besides Indians care about Bollywood, there are A LOT of Indian people in the world. Can only mean good things for Blu as it heralds the beginning of mainstream adoption.

I hope 'Bride and Prejudice' is out soon. The missus loves that film and I am sure it would look stunning in BD.

Hey, i'm indian and i hate bollywood films, but my mum loves them - they basically fall into three groups - love story with loads of singing ect - kinda like musicals, then you have the hollywood rip off films, then everything else (not much falls in this category)

You do ocassionally have a good film thats worth watching, but that's like 1 or 2 a year

But hey, the more films on Blu ray, the merrier, and besides i know quite a few non asians that love bollywood films - i can't understand it really
