Default Was Bay involved with The Rock BD?

I know he's passionate about Transformers being released on Blu-ray but how much involvement does he have with blu-ray transfers of his other movies like my personal favorite, The Rock?

He was heavily involved with the Criterion DVD, and I guess this was just a port over from that. I am not sure if they use the same master or not, but that's about all that's different.

I am torn about buying this movie. I've own the Criterion DVD and I don't feel like replacing it. Of course, that's the same thing that I said about the 4-disc Kingdom of Heaven.

IMHO, there are some directors whose movies were meant for blu-ray.

Bay is one of those directors.

It's no more than a new DVD, and it's an excellent movie and Blu-ray!

I'd never owned this movie before, although I've always really liked it.

I was quite impressed with the PQ on it, but I thought the sound was horrible. It could be intentional or at least always been there though. It's been a while since I've seen it, so it's hard to say.

What I'm specifically referring to is the part with nick cage in that little metal trolly thing (just after they are in that mine cart sort of thing). The sound for some of the bullets seemed completely cut off, late, or just really quiet. It made no sense and really threw me off. There are a few lines of dialogue that seem to be cut off too, but again, it could be intentional or maybe a bad copy that I have.

All in all though, I was very pleased

I dunno. Sounded pretty good to me.

And yes, I also was holding out since I had the Criterion Edition as well. But I sold it, as well as a few other DVD of stuff I already had on Blu-Ray, and used the money to get the Blu-Ray edition once I heard that it had all the features of the Criterion Edition. Plus, the case is a lot slimmer.

So yes, you should pick up the Blu-Ray edition of THE ROCK. At the very least, your collection will take up a little less shelf space.

PQ is very good for a 12 year old movie! Some minor flaws, but overall excellent!

Watched it last night at a reasonable volume and my neighbours ended up banging the wall of my apartment to reduce the volume during the shower room scene!

I thought the PQ was great and the sound was good to me too...I may not have the most sensitive of ears though.

$18.96 at Wal-mart - $5.00 off disney blu-ray - $10 mail in rebate for previous owners of the DVD version = $3.96 + tax. I say double dip! I did and couldn't be more happy!

IF they did a new transfer, DGA requires that Bay approve it

Bay literally put his signature to the Criterion Collection version that the supplements on the disc are from, and the transfer that was done for that

Did your copies have the sticker offer and or paper work on the inside? I and others buying these at Wal-mart don't seem to be able to get the 10 off offer because there is no sticker or anything referencing the offer. Thanks

Well I can assure you, this isn't the same master that they used for Criterion. I just checked and the Criterion print has quite a bit of dirt and dust artifacts on it for the closing scene. It appears that the Blu-Ray has none of that. So it looks like they actually may have gone through and did some clean up for the Blu-Ray release.
