Default So I talked to our Media Super at BB today...

I asked if she had seen any plans to push away the movies and she said she didn't but heard that BUT the players themselves are on the list of things to be 'clearanced', which in BB language is one foot in the grave when it comes to a product being removed. She said the latest price cuts by Toshiba has prompted BB that the format is dying. She also went into the amounts of Blu vs. HD disc's they get in for stock. Today they received 50 some Blu's and 4 (four) HD's. I smiled inside.

If anyone else that works at BB can confirm this please tell me. I don't know if she was blowing smoke up my ass or what. Don't burn me at the stake if this isn't true but it is what I was told. Just thought I would share with my buds!

Edit: If you frequent BB, take a look at their price tags on the players, if they turn solid yellow (means clearance) then that means BB is dropping them.

I don't work of Best Buy but I've noticed in my local store that all the HD DVD players except for one have been moved to a back shelf in the store. There isn't a clearance price on them yet but It looks like the clearance shelf to me. Hell I could be wrong but we'll see.

There was a report last week that some major retailer was suppose to go blu exclusive at the show, but that did not happen. Nor did the follow up on the Warner news that Uni and Para were suppose to at least go neutral. Guess you can't confirm anything until the big brass make a official annoucement.

One thing is for sure, BB has always seemed to be in the blu corner though.

From Cris has heard is that once the players are sold (whenever that is since a player hasn't been sold in over 5 days) they will not be re-ordered.

I don't think we've sold one in about 2 weeks, literally

Darn it, where are the red fans when you need them, they should buy themselves to the eventual victory!!!

Ultimately, the retailers don't care about what format. For them, as long as the inventory moves. With what has unfolded since WB, they would rather clear off their inventory before announcing anything more to reduce the casualty. I can't even bear to think about the Nielson's numbers. ;-)

Yep...it's the same five players at my local Best Buy. I know because you can write your name in the dust on the boxes.

Now if only the price of their BD's would go down.

I was at my BB today seeing if there were any sales on blu movies and there were none that we appealing. I did look at the HD DVD stock and the players were just sitting there and it seemed like no one had touched them for a while. As of yet, in my BB, there are still no HD DVD (movies or players) with yellow sale tags or items marked as clearance, yet. But it will happen, soon enough

speaking of Best Buy, I have a funny BB story.

My girlfriend and I were there this evening picking up a splitter for digital cable and I was looking at the different splitters when my girlfriend walked up to me with this wierd look on her face.

"What?" I said.

"I was just looking at that Sony tv hooked up to the Blu-Ray" she said in awe.

We went and looked at it for another 10 minutes, discussing just how awsome the picture looked. Then having found what we were looking for we started to leave.

Then my girlfriend stopped in front of another Tv display.

"Whats that?" she asked.

"Oh, thats an HD DVD player" I replied.

"Blah. Doesn't look as good" she said and kept right on walking to the cash register.

I was so proud of my girlfriend. Makes a guy feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

For clearence, some stores don't always make the yellow tags. If your want to see if its clearence, there will be a small letter "c" below the barcode in the signage. That always indicates that its the end of the line.

My friend in LA called tonight to tell me that there are literally 30+ HD-DVD players sitting as open-box buys at the Burbank BB store. He asked an employee what happened and was told had a ton of returns.

I'm trying to get him to go back there and take a picture.

i know this is not best buy but at my sam's club they are getting so desperate to sell their hd-dvd players that they actually put them right underneath the blu-ray player that was advertising blu-ray movies such as spider-man 3. and on the blu-ray player price tag it said 1 left on order and they must had at least 30 hd-dvd players in just that 1 spot

i dont work at best buy but i do work in the electronics at a walmart and we're sitting on like 10-15 hd-a3 players that no one has even asked any of us about or thought about buying and we get like at least 10 questions a day about if we carry blu ray movies which we do, and about 5-7 asking if we carry blu-ray players which we dont besides ps3 but i always always steer asking consumers towards our beloved blu and when people ask why we carry only 2 rows of hd vs 8 of blu ray i simply smile and say because blu-ray is the format of the future and hd dud is dead in the water and they usually say ok, ill go blu then

Toshiba in a faint gray grainy movie from the 1940's: "No....No, this can't be! No, I thought...I thought we were going to win...I though we had it all..."

All of these reports are great, but why aren't we seeing reports of Blu-Ray players (sans PS3) greatly outselling HD-DUD players? I have to wonder for every story about Blu way outselling dud in stores, is there another case where the numbers are flipped? Maybe it wasn't until December that the tide started to shift back to blu. I know toshiba's chart at CES implied that their players plus the 360 drive were about equal to blu players (again sans ps3).
