Default Will an R Rated movie ever gross a Billion worldwide?

Do you think it will EVER happen? Who knows how successful R rated movies will be in the future but recently there has been a bit of a push with more big studio R rated movies. I wonder if it will ever happen in our lifetimes.

Do a crossover with Aladdin, the Lion King animals, and potty mouth Captain America joining forces with the Guardians of the Galaxy in space versus Pennywise inside a Death Star and let’s see what happens.

I think R-rated content limits it’s appeal in certain foreign markets like China, so I don’t think it’ll be any time soon.

Assuming you mean grossing a billion dollars US, I’d say yes, it’s only a matter of time (absent some huge changes that made it impossible like the end of the world or the resetting of the numerical system / units of currency etc).

I’d expect it to happen in my lifetime, more than once. Although I plan on living a while too.

Well in 50 years time, making a billion will be the average domestic gross, figuring in inflation, so the answer will be yes

With a growing intertnational market and inflation. Yes.

It's just that R rated movies won't ever be as successful or mpre successful on average imo than the PG-13 types as their audiences are more narrow in who they target. That's not a bad thing though.

Tbh, i wouldn't even worry about the numbers. That's for bean counters and it never indicates the quality of a movie. There's great movies that never even were considered successes theatrically and later became cult hits like Blade Runner etc.

Exactly, films like The Exorcist (this is one of the 10 biggest movies of all time) and The Godfather would have easily done it adjusted for inflation, and even in much weaker international markets. It’s only a matter of time, same as with pretty much all unadjusted box office milestones.

R-rated also shuts out a pretty large demographic of the movie-going population.

Eventually yeah, inflation will inevitably get one over the $1B mark. Will it happen anytime soon? Doubt it. An R-rated Deadpool/Wolverine team-up probably would've done it, but now we'll never know lol
