Default Star Trek Insurrection - US iTunes store

Does anyone have any idea why this title is missing from the US iTunes store?
All the other Star Trek film titles are available except this.

But it is on the UK store and the Canadian store...

No idea! But a couple months ago I called Apple about it, and they told me to call Paramount. So then I called Paramount, and they told me to call Apple. So who knows? But I am hoping that with the Picard series coming out, that somebody among the powers that be will notice that it's missing and fix it.

This is baffeling... I used to have so much faith and confidence in Apple for so long, and while I know this is probably down to the studio rather than Apple, but between this and Silver Linings Playbook dissapearing on me... I don't know who to trust anymore!

Unfortunately, this seems to be the default response from the studios as soon as you mention iTunes. I've exchanged multiple emails with Fox, Paramount and Universal regarding availability of movies in my region and they all maintain that it is Apple's problem. Even when asking why a movie is not in 4K whilst it is in 4K in other regions. It's beyond frustrating. You would think that if a movie had been removed from sale and the studio wasn't aware of the reason why, they would be thanking you and actively investigate with Apple.

Star Trek Insurrection should still be in your library. It is in mine. Just have to scroll down in the TV app. Isn’t searchable in iTunes but it is still there as a hidden title in your library and playable.

Can you please try playing it? I've heard from others that even though it's still in their libraries, it supposedly has major playback issues.

Watched some and seems to playback perfectly fine for me. FWIW, I also launch things from the iTunes Movies app on my Apple TV as there have been some playback issues on some titles using the TV app since 12.4. Not sure what those have been resolved.

I was looking to buy it. I've added all the ST films to my iTunes wishlist and then I'll just wait until theres an offer on. But Insurrection doesn't appear to be on the US store at all...

It's not cleared for sale in the US because Apple says it doesn't have a Closed Captions file (English subtitles for the hearing impaired) attached to it. (This is required in the US for any film that ever had CC or English SDH created for it, which Insurrection does.)

awp69- can you confirm if there is English CC subtitles on the film (Not just English, they have to be for the hearing impaired). Looking at it in the UK store, I don't see English subtitles listed at all... If they really aren't there, then that is the problem, and it's Paramount's issue. If someone contacts Paramount, tell them what the problem is (or at least what Apple thinks the problem is...)

If you do see CC/SDH English subtitles, then it might be Apple's issue, unless they think there is something wrong with the subtitle file...

I can view this on the Singapore store, it has neither CC or SDH indicated in the tags. Only HD displayed.

That's crazy if that's the reason! Especially since it's still being sold by literally every other digital retailer. And... it would likely be a relatively easy fix, right? So what's the holdup, I wonder?

Apple got a really weirdly specific about this a year or two ago. Any feature (and even bonus content) that has ever had CC/SDH subtitles created for it HAS to include those subtitles on iTunes. For the feature, they will not clear it for sale in the US without it. (It is, technically, a legal requirement, so they could be sued if they have a title without them. So could any other digital retailer, but Apple is the only one that seems to be making a big deal out of it (or does Insurrection have CC at the other retailers?) Maybe Apple did get sued... )

If it's in the Extras, and they notice it (like English SDH subs on the Blu-ray, but not delivered with the Extras) they won't approve the Extras until it's fixed... This probably slips through the cracks a bit since I don't think they check them that closely all the time, but that's the theory anyway...

Cool More of this..

I find myself in a similar boat. Frustratingly, I've bought every other Star Trek Movie via the iTunes US store but Star Trek IX: Insurrection isn't available.

When I tried to swap stores to buy it from the UK store, that opened up a slew of iTunes store errors across all of my devices. I contacted iTunes and got a slew of inept responses that were little more than copy and paste, non-actionable blurbs that equated to: "Correct, this title isn't in the US Store"

... I contacted paramount and the email auto response isn't very promising - something about the mass of email and maybe not being able to respond to all requests.

Sure is hard spending money with folks, sometimes.
