In before the Ryan Reynolds "But Why?" gif and countless posts about how unnecessary this is. I actually think the idea of Pennywise (or whatever he was before) terrorizing the pioneers of Derry would be an interesting take. Set the movie decades before the events involving the Losers's club.

I'd rather see a decent chapter Two with the kids from chapter one as adults.

Hrmmm....prequel to IT....well, we know Pennywise would survive, so that's your first story problem. You'd have to develop an entire cast of new characters who probably all get slaughtered, so you're in downer ending territory. I think the only path would be the whole "survival horror" genre, with a raging monster and people trying to escape the beast/slasher/xenomorph/ThingFromOuterSpace/Damien, etc. Possibilities for world-building, sure, but not sure it would have anything of value to say, and law of diminishing returns could teeter the whole thing into Alien 3/Alien Resurrection/Alien v. Predator territory, where the brand never recovers.

I say let it go, but Warner Bros. gotta eat.

There is absolutely no reason they couldn’t have fit Pennywise’s backstory into that 3 hour bloated mess Chapter 2. This is a cash grab.

I'll go see it if they get Crispin Glover to direct.

Just call it "Pennywise" and have it be about that character.

I never understood why they didn't make this a trilogy in the first place. There's a TON of stuff left out of the first two.

Worked well for the Hobbit imo, I loved the additional stuff that occurred during the events of the Hobbit book.

Or four part "trilogies" where the last film is split in two, in order to milk it for even more money.
