Default Disney quietly putting Fox classics in the vault

Not too keen on the implications of this one.

https://www.vulture.com/2019/10/disn...its-vault.html

Quote:
In the preceding few months, Neff had heard rumblings in his Google group of film programmers that Disney was about to start treating older Fox titles as they do older Disney titles — making them mostly unavailable to for-profit theaters. More and more film programmers and theater managers were reporting that they had suddenly and cryptically been told by their studio contacts that Fox’s back catalogue was no longer available to show. Some got calls informing them that an existing booking had been revoked.
Quote:
The economic effects could be especially devastating for neighborhood landmarks like the Plaza in Atlanta — the oldest and last remaining independent theater in the city. Its owner, Christopher Escobar, also the executive director of the Atlanta Film Society, estimates that 25 percent of the Plaza’s yearly revenue comes from Fox titles. Half that take is The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which they’re still permitted to screen; but once they lose other guaranteed Fox moneymakers like Alien, Fight Club, and The Sound of Music, he estimates they’ll lose 10 to 12 percent of their yearly income.

I guess that includes the theatrical versions of Star Wars IV, V & VI.

I know this isn't quite the same, but once I heard the rumors of this deal I started buying up Fox titles on Blu-ray, just in case they either go out of print or come back out under Disney marked up way higher than they were. A week ago a got a number of Fox horror titles from Best Buy that are going for pretty cheap (8 buck and under range) since next Halloween they may not be available.

Disney's becoming really easy to dislike in recent years.

I doubt every Fox film will be in the vault. It makes no f***ing sense. Fox has plenty of content suitable for Disney+.

I believe Disney removed the Fox logo from all Star Wars films.

Huh. I thought Disney owned those after the buyout. Guess we have to keep waiting regardless.

Why didn't they just add the Fox logos to the other movies instead? Since they practically own Fox now. Another dumb suit decision.

I'm getting some strong déjà vu because I thought we already knew about this months ago.

The negatives are in Lucasfilm's storage facility.

They have top men working on them now. Top… men.

To be completely fair, as much as I love the Fox fanfare, it wouldn't make sense. Fox are no longer distributors nor were they ever involved in making them (with the exception of A New Hope).

Honestly, I could wrong. Maybe the Fox logos are in the actual movies themselves. But there is no sign of it in any of the slipcovers/cases and there are reports that the Fox logos are removed on Disney+ (again, except maybe for A New Hope).

This is one of the things that worried me and still does. But hey, now people get to watch their favourite purple CGI Alien punch their other favourite green CGI alien in the face.

Sorry, I wasn't exactly clear. I meant keeping the Fox logos on the original 6 movies. I don't care about them adding it to the Disney SW movies, they could leave it off of those. If they really have taken it off of the original 6 films then I personally think that's stupid.

Taking Phantom of the Paradise off the repertory market ought to be illegal.
