Default Release dayes for Lord of the Rings?

I'm new here and have yet to find a search section to look for this being posted.

The LOTR movies are buy far my favorites of all time. I remember when the first one came out I was so against this movie. So much so that when It was released on DVD for purchase or rent I was against even renting it, I didn't want to waste the money on even a rental.

After some hard times w/work and a layoff, when called back I was placed next to a guy that loved to trade DVDs for the weekend and he had LOTR fellowship and he let me barrow it. I didn't even know it was a 3 part movie.

I was so hooked on that movie when it was over I thought to myself,"What! I'm to assume they made it!?"

So does anyone know when it's schedule for release on BR?
Thanks

All we really know is that the theatrical version are to be released in 2008 - they will probably launch sometime before the hobbit hits the big screen

No schedule, no idea.

Blockbuster movies such as LOTR, Indy, Star Wars, etc usually won't be released until later, when studios are assured a higher sales margin and profit.

Good rule of thumb on these forums (and any other forum) is to use the search feature. If you don't see anything, assume it's TBD/TBA.

You mean besides the large, prominent search box at the top-left of every page of this website?

I dont see them being a 2008 release for a couple reasons:

1) bluray has not taken enough of the market yet for New Line to make a big enough profit on the movies at this time, i see an announcement that they are being worked on for release to boaster more player sales.

2) HD-DUD is now out of the picture and the studios may think that they dont need to throw out thier heavy hitters just yet because there is no competition left.

3) if the writers guild strike continues, the hobbit will not be out in 08, you wont see the hobbit to at least summer 09 which is when the LOTR blus would be released to tie into the movie promotions.

Just my thought on things. Would love to have them this year for christmas, but i hightly doubt it, could be wrong, hope i am....but we will see

You couldn't find a Lord of the Rings thread? Next thing you're going to say is that you couldn't find a Batman Begins thread as wel. J/K with ya. Click on the search option / click on advanced search / type LOTR in keyword box / click the drop down menu and select in titles only / click on search / now choose any of the million LOTR topics you'd like to revive.

My first hint was the word "Search" being on the button...

Bill Hunt stated in our new Insiders Thread that LOTR is at least a year away if not two on Blu-ray.

Thanks guys.

The search box I was looking for is a bit different looking then that of a google style look. It might be under the advanced search.

Will do.

I'm proud of you. You didn't get crazy offended after being heckled by some of these posters. Not that they don't have a gripe, but that really is how new posters like yourself get angry enough to never come back. And trust me, everybody on these forums want these movies on BD as much as you.

i'm listening to the hi-res multi-channel audio of the complete score to the two towers as i write this (HIGHLY RECOMMEND that those of you with DVD-A players collect all three complete scores. simply incredible).

anyway, i've read somewhere that perhaps over the next 1-2 years we can expect them. i'm fine with that. i want them to be truly special because i believe LOTR is the greatest story and movies ever made. they are simply the best of every aspect of film making, based upon one of the greatest stories ever written. what peter jackson and co. did is nothing short of legendary, and i hope new line gives this film its due on blu-ray in grand fashion.

i can't wait for the hobbit, another great story that i enjoyed reading together with my son. here's hoping that PJ decides to direct, as I can't imagine another giving the attention it deserves.

i truly love these films. as great as they are, they are but a shadow of the story upon which tolkein gave us. i encourage anyone who loves the movies to read the books.

patience. we'll get our hi-def versions in due time

Everything you said above this, I agree with, except maybe best ever, definitely up there. You've definitely got to when thinking of every movie ever made consider these. Now, as far as the books...they are the most boring books ever written. You can say whatever you want about having detail, but Tolkien takes forever to describe anything. I now that probably helped in creating all the scenery and characters in the movie, but for me the books were just boring.

According to Mr. Hunt:

They know it's the crown jewel of their catalog, and they're going to want to work with Peter Jackson to create something really special for it on Blu-ray. That will take some time.

HD optical media is still very young, so for a franchise that makes $1 billion each movie, they want to make sure they know exactly what they're doing, as well.

i hope they release the extended version & not the theatrical version. i mean once you've seen the extended version the theatrical version just doesn't cut it.
