Microsoft gets rid of yearly Xbox Live Gold subscription from their website

Reddit thinks Microsoft might be getting rid of Gold, and just focusing on GP. Maybe even making Multiplayer free (this I doubt)

Damn, MS is making sweeping wholesale changes!

1. Discontinuing X1S and X1X
2. Rolling XCloud into Game Pass
3. Getting rid of Xbox Live Gold subscription.

My guess is Game Pass and Xbox Live will be one in the same. If you have Live, you have Game Pass. If you have Game Pass, you have Live.

I canceled Game Pass and Xbox Live Gold yesterday.
There just isn't enough to keep me interested right now.
Will probably sign back up (for gold only no game pass) in a couple months when the NFL/NBA games come out.
Are prepaid 3 month and 6 month cards still available/accepted?

I agree with you for now. But I have a feeling when next gen and all of those newly acquired MS studios get rolling, it's going to be a very compelling service. I hope Sony is prepared because MS is coming!

Valid question since I had bought some codes to use when my subscription was up and obviously haven't used them yet. I'm assuming the answer would be yes though as they have been fairly consumer friendly.

This is a stupid move by Microsoft. I have no use of Game pass. If I want a game I either buy it when it comes out or when it’s on sale. I don’t like remove games after so long. Every time they Are looking good but then they pull crap like this. Not every one wants game pass. I’m not going to pay more for a service I’m not going to use.

If this is true, it actually is a really good idea and a great strategy to convince non-XB customers to make the move.

game passs just expired and I'm going to wait to get at least 2 years of xbox game pass at a fair price. It's going to be a expensive christmas this year.

It's $60 a year for Gold. Not going to find it cheaper. Buy 2 years, then buy GP/Ultimate for 1 month. Now you have 2 years GP. Plus right now it's $1 for Ultimate.

I have a feeling that is why they removed the digital 1-year subs, because they are pushing the $1 upgrade thing again and they didn't want to make it easy for people to max out the 3-years.

That said, plenty of availability of the 1-year subs at retail still in many places.

I did the offer the first time when they did it, but I only had like 7 or 8 months left on my sub, so it was done this spring. I cancelled and went back to regular Game Pass, but it appears I am eligible to do it again - so I'm going to get a couple of retail 1-year cards this weekend, and re-up.

Just a note on this - they are definitely disappearing at retail as well. I have just made a point of glancing at the Gift Card sections in places like Home Depot or Walgreens, etc. since this began, and in the past few weeks they have been vanishing. I was in one drugstore where I actually watched them taking it down - the clerk was redoing the Gift Card section according to a new chart they had and they were discarding the old 1-year subs cards and not putting them back up.

So FYI if you are planning to do this - I'd do it soon. I'm glad I did - now I have Ultimate until 2023.
