Does Shout often do these "surprise" announcements when it's less than 2 weeks from street date?

Not sure. Maybe they only do this with their limited edition stuff? I found this by accident while looking for something else on their website...

I'd love this but $27 for an hour long film is a little steep

So it seems that some double-feature DVDs can get standalone Blu-ray releases, but not others, eh, Shout!?

While I again appreciate that the DVD extras are here, I'm not paying $27 for a single 63-minute film remastered in 2K from "A Fine-Grain Print". If it was a 4K scan (preferably of the negative, or something close to it) then maybe, but they should have at least thrown in Not of this Earth, even if it had to be in SD. I wonder if they want $27 more for that one.

The two limited edition July releases were better deals than this.

Unfortunately, no. This is one of their exclusive limited editions, available only direct from Shout.

I've never seen this before, is it worth the price? Will I regret not buying it?

That's a hard question to answer.

I'm a 50s Sci-Fi freak, so this was an essential purchase for me. If you love low-budget B&W movies from that period, you'll probably like it. But understand that it's not in the same league with classics like The Thing or It Came from Outer Space or Them!. It's early Corman poverty-row stuff. Very imaginative and creepy but probably optional if you're only a casual fan.

Having said that, it is limited to only 1,000 units and I seriously doubt we'll be seeing this one get a physical media release ever again (unless it's outside region A). No way in hell was I going to let this pass!

Until the old DVD came out, this was one of the rarest genre films on video. It was released on VHS by Allied Artists video very early on, and I only ever saw one used copy in the wild, which I of course immediately bought (and later sold to the famed Scarecrow Video here in Seattle as they didn’t have a copy!). Must not have made too many. I’m really excited for this Blu.

Yeah, I seriously never thought this would ever appear on Blu-ray and can totally understand why it's a limited edition. I can't imagine they'd sell many more than that to the small (and shrinking every day) audience of Monster Kids who have been dreaming about it. Gives me hope for Not of This Earth, which is the one I REALLY want/need!

All that and it has the Professor in it! Thanks for the heads up. You should post this in the dedicated 50s sci-fi thread (Keep Watching the Skies).

Shout/Scream gave me this and The Beast of Hollow Mountain . Any chance for The Killer Shrews?

Ugh, that's really awful of Shout! I love this movie but I can't justify paying more than 50$ on it. What a crummy way to release this... Boo on shout! for this.
