Default New guy with reciever questions. I need help!

Well Im new to Blu, but have had HT set ups before. My main question is this. Does any HDMI ready receiver work for Blu and the different sound formats? I see PCM and Linear etc. I remember when 5.1 and Optical Out was the STUFF! Im behind the curve LOL!

I really prefer Harmon Kardon. I love their receiver and the quality and warmth and clean tone of their amplifiers. Everyone seems to recommend, Dennon and Onkyo and Im sure they are very good too, I just prefer HK stuff. That being said Im VERY tempted to order this, which I saw recommended here.

I do have Wharfedale Speakers Im using as my front mains and only speakers as of now. Right now Im running my sound that way and even now I can hear a HUGE difference in the volume and clarity and depth that Blu provides in sound.

Thanks for any help.

purchase a Blu-ray player that can decode Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD: Master Audio that's also Profile 1.1 or 2 compliant ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray...layer_profiles ) and you'll be fine with the Onkyo HT-SR800

What Blu-ray player did you buy? You will want a receiver that will decode the newer codecs if your player can't do it. Many here are partial to the new Onkyo or Denon lines as they will handle anything your BD player can throw at them. Pioneer Elite and Yamaha gives you some options also.

HK is behind technologically right now. I guess they might refresh their receiver this year since everyone has a series with HDMI 1.3a , 1080p upconvert and all new HD codecs support but them.

Onkyo is very nice with the 705 and 805. I personnally own a 3808ci from Denon and i love it!

The Onkyo HT System in my sig works great and was a great value for the cost. Decodes everything out right now and is easy to get going. I highly reccomend it.
