Default NetFlix Online Viewing

Hello,

Has anyone else tried to use netflix's online viewing? I went through the install process, but got stuck when it tried to install the new Media Player. It gave me some crap about windows not being genuine and to check my computer's date and time.

does anyone have a clue what this means?

That's strange, I've run it on a non-genuine windows machine.

Not sure why it would even care or have the means to check. You don't have some weird timecrack running do you?

Mine went through with no problem.
I think Windows Media 11 will only install on Windows Genuine version.

I dont really know what "genuine" means, but the computer came with the software so I didn't steal it or anything. I'm confused

There's a lot of illegal copy of XP floating around the internet.
If you bought your PC from HP or Dell or any reputable company you probably get the genuie copy of XP. But if you bought it from a computer show or someone built for you then It's probably not.

Are you able to update your PC regularly via the internet ? Cause XP will check if your OS is genuine before it let you update that's another way finding out if your copy is ligit.

I got this computer when I went to college 4 years ago. It's an IBM thinkpad. Windows was already loaded on it when I got it. It should be genuine I would think.

I think this is something new, I used netflix 2 weeks ago to view online, no problem. Last week I try and it forced me to upgrade to wmp11. Well I actually installed wmp11 without installing windows genuine advantage (wga) and netflix said that it could not play until I installed all components of media player 11 I lost windows once, got the version I am using from a friend, and dont think I wanna spend another 100 bucks just so I can use my netflix online when I can just be patient till a bluray come in the mail.

I would assume you have the real version installed. If you bought it brand new in a box not from someone sold it to you.
Go to MS website and try to install version 11 if you don't have one installed yet and see if it solve the problem.
If not then call MS tech support see if they can help you out.

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!

This behavior will only feed the download fire, and provide Netflix and entities like them with data showing how much customer support there is for this format. If you are honestly against it, you must resist.

I pay them so thay can stick a damn disk in a postage paid envelope and mail it to me.

Try updating your Windows first if that works then it's genuine. Update Windows Media Player next. Netflix is very touchy with piracy protection and the latest WM 11 has anti-copying stuff that they now require for you to use their service
