Default 1.5v Firmware for Samsung BD-P1400

Hey, I just downloaded the newest firmware upgrade of 1.5 on 01/25/08 and installed it on my BD-P1400. The player didn't operate correctly and the install didn't go as normal although it said it said it worked. I placed the burned ISO disc in the tray and it did it's thing and then ejected the disc and kept on doing it's thing. Then it powered off. I powered it back on and it took forever to get to the 'set language' part. The remote control also did not operate the player at all. I had to remove the batteries from the remote and hold down some buttons for several minutes to drain the microprocessor and then replace the batteries. The remote then worked again. Damn! These things get funkier with each upgrade. I spoke to a guy at Samsung before this upgrade came out. He said that the new Die Hard and Pirates discs would not play at all in the BD-P1400 until this upgrade. I own neither of those discs so I would like to hear from somone who does and see if this is true. So far, the only disc that has given me problems is '3:10 to Yuma'. It plays but has a hell of a load time.

I own the 1400 and DH4 as well as Pirates 3. I have not done the 1.5 update yet but both of those movies have played numerous times without so much as a glitch. I'm curious as to what this update is really for.

I don't think all 1400's were created equal. I have not yet attempted the newest update in firmware. However, not until I updated my firmware after purchase was I able to play DH4 etc... Samsung customer service still told me that they were working on firmware to allow such movies to play. Obviously those we talk to at customer service aren't fully aware of what they are working with...

My 1400 has some behavioral issues...it has been known to pick and choose what DVD or BD it wants to play. It also at times stops talking to my TV. All of which I can work with for the time being. I simply turn all components off and then on again...seems to fix the issue at the time.

I love my player, but look forward to updating to something better as money and technology allow.

Best of luck...

I have the Australian version and the only problem I had witnessed is the occasional jitter in 24 FPS on The Rock. All other movies have played flawlessly including all the titles mentioned above.

I upgraded the FW last night to 1.5 20080124. Whilst this didn't go without any hitches, I have the upgrade now successfully loaded and the machine seems to be running flawlessly, even in 24 FPS.

Although I followed the upgrade instructions provided, I did have a problem:

On the 1st attempt, the disk loaded and the confirmation screen displayed and I accepted the default option of YES. The update process now froze. After about 15 minutes, I turned the player off with the on/off button, waited a minute or so and turned it back on, expecting the worse.

Fortunately it turned back on, original FW still in place and worked fine.

Nervously, I went for a 2nd attempt. This time when it displayed the confirmation screen, I cursor’d from the default YES to NO and then back to YES and pressed enter. This time updating screen appeared and after approx 7 minutes, the machine turned itself off as per the instructions.

I turned the machine back on and low and behold, the select language screen appeared and I was off and running.

The upgrade resets all of the setup parameters back to factory default so just changed these as per my setup.

I played THE ROCK again in 24 FPS and it was perfect. I am assuming all the others will play ok as well.

Cheers, Norm...

Default Interesting...

Thank you to all of you who responded. It is amazing how savvy some of us are with this technology. But I tell you that I know people such as my best friend, my parents, etc. who would just dump the entire thing. They wouldn't know an ISO file from Setup screen. But, I do love my BD-P1400 and watching Blu-rays! I just pruchased and watched Casino Royale yesterday - very nice. Daniel Craig/ Bond is one smooth cat and evn smoother on Blu-ray! Skins

DO you play Pirates 3 in 1080P 24FPS mode? If not, can you try it before you do the update.

My Bro (Aussie 1400 as well) told me yesterday that he has problems with Pirates 3 in 24FPS. Approx every 10 seconds or so there is some screen jitter as Pirates 3 is actually 23.xxxx FPS and the new FW has fixed the problem. He is doing his upgrade today from the same disc I burnt.

I must admit, I did not try Pirates in 24FPS before I upgraded mine (so it probably had some problems as well) but it does play back perfectly now in 24FPS since the upgrade. I will get my Bro to test it again after the upgrade and report back.

Cheers,
Norm...
