I forgot to post this thread earlier in the week due to personal matters. I'll try to do these every Wednesday going forward.

Family movie and not on streaming for the win.

Peter Rabbit has the benefit of being in theaters only (plus, no family movie competition at the moment), but In The Heights has received glowing reviews and is arriving on a wave of hype.

In the Heights FTW with maybe $25-$30 million (hopefully more). I’ve heard from a number of people that repeat viewings are coming (especially from hardcore fans of the stage production), so regardless of the final number, this movie should get a tremendous boost from not only word of mouth, but revisits thanks to the infectious musical numbers.

Peter Rabbit 2 should do solid business now that school is out, at least over here anyway.

Bold prediction time: In the Heights blows the doors off the projected estimates of mid $20 millions.

In the Heights: $39 million
Peter Rabbit 2: $14 million

I saw Peter Rabbit today and it was pretty packed for a 1pm showing. Most people I have seen in a theater in over a year. At least 25-30 people.

I’ve gone Peter Rabbit. But I do hope In The Heights is a big surprise in cinemas.

I was the only person at my 2:55 PM showing of Peter Rabbit. On the other hand, a noontime showing of In The Heights had at least fifteen people besides me present.

In the Heights grossed an estimated 5 million yesterday. A Cinemascore.

I said Peter Rabbit 2. Kids and all.

Maybe its just me, but I've seen the trailer for IN THE HEIGHTS a few times and there isn't a single reason why I'd wanna see that.
I cringe at even thinking about watching it from a free library rental down the road. I like musicals, but it just looks dumb.

A Quiet Place 2 has cracked $100M domestically, the first film to do so, in a pandemic-environment, in the US.

Funny how it managed to do that in two weeks when Godzilla vs. Kong crawled to the $99 million mark after 2-1/2 months in release.

That’s a very underwhelming number, particularly as I believe Thursday showings (which started at like 2pm) are rolled into it. Been lots of full shows here in NYC, but that’s obviously the best market for it, and according to Deadline, Exhibitors are hearing it’s where the bulk of business is coming from. A Quiet Place 2 might win the weekend.

Maybe HBO Max is hurting In the Heights' numbers? Or was the appeal overestimated?

Ouch!

Sure people will use this as a negative excuse for theaters.

I kinda doubt it, that was really rare (it was crazy cause both that and Jumanji came out at the same time and had insane legs) and the HBO Max releases have not had good legs so far. A true shame cause it seemed to have the reviews and buzz to break out, but I think it will be a box office disappointment

That's what I'm thinking, the HBO MAX plan isn't fully helping.

Has me curious about West Side Story, since it's theatrical only, and that's coming out in the holidays.
