Default Who here wants a 5 disc BD player??

I have had my BDP-1000 for nearly a month now, and one thing I miss is my 5 disc sony DVD player. Don't get me wrong I don't miss the Blurry picture of 480i. I just miss the convenience of loading up a few of my currenty favorite movies from a variety of Genre's.

My question is, how many of you also like muti disc players? or do you mostly prefer a single disc unit?

I have never got into the multidisc players.

I can't see the point for movies - though for CDs I can (and have a changer in the car).

i've actually only liked multi disc players for CD's. when it comes to movies, i've always found myself going back to the player to check which disc was in which slot. if i was doing that, i may as well save the money and get a single disc.

Well I have both types (of DVD player) and tho I prefer the simplicity of a single disc player for most film watching, nothing beats a multidisc player to do comparisons or watch multi discs sets, specially when I do a TV season marathon. So I'll vote for having it as an option in Consumer Electronics soon.

Mmm.. a CD a SACD a DVD a DVD-A and a BD all in one tray? Heh the mind boggles.

that would be ideal, I just love being able to load up several discs and sit back and play around tuning my system and testing scenes from differen't flicks without having to get up, take the disc out, load up, put the disc away etc.

My main players have always been single disc. I only use a 5-disc changer for my TV shows, as I usually intersperse a drama and comedy series at the same time and I can keep a few discs of each in there.

Let me guess when you got to 420 you got the munchies for some reason, then ended up eating a whole family size bag of patato chips, and watching the preview channel for 2 hours. I would never know anything about this.

If the MMC device can be build soon enough and we all have terrabytes of HDD space in our houses, then disc changers would be a thing of the past. Rip everything onto the HDD and use the player to navigate to what you want to see.

The stumbling block right now is DRM and the cost of RAID.

I realize the last post in this thread is really dated but this was all I could find about blu-ray changers. I agree with the sentiment of several of you that there is limited use for a 5 disc movie player as opposed to a single disc player. However, I really like the Sony 400 disc player that holds all my DVD movies.

Anyhow, all this was build up to my question of what people think or have heard about the likelyhood of there being mega blu-ray changer.

I would imagine if one were to come out it wouldn't be for quite a while and by then who knows what new fantastic technology will exist

By my reckoning, anything that was made for DVDs will probably be made for Blu-rays "eventually".

It would be kind of nice having to only load movies once and not have to put them back in the case (don't the dvds get dusty in something like that though?) but it would have to have some on screen organization tools so I didn't have to work hard to find something I wanted to see.

So in the end I guess...yeah it'd be cool, but not necessary.

I had two sony 5-disc changers. Never had more than one movie in either of them, so i'll pass on mult-disc changers in the future.
I'm really anal about making sure the discs get put back in their cases, so i always took a disc out when i was done watching it.

I've had my changer for about 3 years and I don't recall seeing any dust (at least any noticable amounts) on the discs (they sit vertically and are fairly isolated from dust), and there are no finger prints since they just sit in the machine.

The DVD changer does have an on screen system that lets you find movies, it will automatically insert the Title and Cover Art for some discs while others you have to enter manually with a keyboard.

I hope they make one for Blu-Ray sooner rather than later.

Actually a Blu replacement for the DVP-CX777ES would be big for custom installers.

I could see Sony selling these easy for $1500 in the custom HT world.
