^^ That needs to be posted everywhere since this another HD-DVD zealots' FUD point: "Oh noes, Samsung was trashed by Sony and made the scapecoat and they're gonna make universal players or defect!"
Nope. EDIT: I posted this in the so called news thread at you know where and the MS employees and HD-DVD acolytes were all over it real fast. Pretty desperate and humourous to see, actually. No surprises. Last edited by JTK; 11-13-2006 at 01:48 PM. |

Doom for the dvd, doom!
![]() By the way i like this line the most : "In September, LG Electronics, Samsung’s domestic rival, decided to abandon HD-DVD development plans." Last edited by Dave; 11-13-2006 at 03:47 PM. |

The writing's on the wall and has been since before HD-DVD launched.
BD is the future. We know it. The CE companies know it. |

Naturally I had a certain MS employee cryptically post this as a response to this news:
Quote:
![]() 2007 is just going to be more Blu, starting with CES. |

I've been saying this for a long time, but I'll say it again: If HD-DVD doesn't get any additional studio support, or CE support by CES 2007, then their time is going to be severely limited. What are people going to think when they go into a store and see 5-6 different BD players and 1.5 HD-DVD players? Even telling customers who's backing BD vs. who's backing HD-DVD, people are swayed towards BD, they are just waiting for prices to come down to the $500-$700 range, and the Sammy is approaching that price point in many places already. Add to the fact that there are many people who are perfectly fine with using the PS3 as their BD playback device until standalones get cheaper, the gap grows even more.

I was watching What's Kewl at CEDIA 2006 last night on HDNet, and there was a lot of focus on the Panasonic and Pioneer Blu-ray players.

For January's CES show (CES 2007) you will note that the following companies will have booths set up.
Blu-ray Disc Association HD-DVD Promotion Group Panasonic Pioneer Samsung Sony Mitsubishi LG Toshiba Looks like Blu-ray will have a huge showing. |

CES is going to be an ONSLAUGHT of Blu. You will see more HD-DVD owners defect and you will see tons of people on AVS saying how Blu-Ray looks every bit as good and better at times. Honestly, i still stand by my custom slogan for HD-DVD. Short Lived.
The HD-DVD forums are filled with gloom right now, people ready to jump ship, canceling orders, etc. They realized what most of us already knew. You cant win a format war with 1 CE company and a handful of studios. I feel bad on their investments of crappy hardware, but i will welcome them with open arms to the future of High Definition. |

I almost wonder if Toshiba is sticking around this long to recoupe some of their investment into HD-DVD research and development. Once they get to a point they can balance their books and see money to be made from Blu-ray they will jump ship. Nothing more than speculation on my part.

What's really amusing is how many of them are buying the Samsung, a player that a lot of them soundly trashed before. Most sight unseen. Samsung really should have released that deck at $499 or even $599. While it would have had its share of problems, they would have kept people early on. Curious to see if the price drops on the 17th will happen.
