There are no programs I know of that even work on PS3. Maybe try connecting your pc to your lcd/plasma if applicable.
But like ^he said, divx will look better on a smaller screen and can really look bad on bigger tv's/monitors. Last edited by Maxell; 01-29-2008 at 02:33 AM. |

One of the basic tenets of information theory is that when it comes to entropy, you cannot create detail that is not there.
Think of each frame of the video as a matrix of pixels. Now stretch that matrix 2x2 for each pixel Conceptually, you can go frame by frame and sketch in missing pixels from your knowledge of the video, but a program cannot have enough information in to be able to come up with a way to come up with the missing pixels in all cases. Besides, almost every divx file I've see have severe compression artifacts, something not obvious on a smaller monitor, but is exposed as flawed on bigger monitors (even bigger PC monitors). |

I could be wrong, but my understanding is that xvid is an open source program similiar to divx.
Again anyone that knows better can correct me if I'm incorrect ![]() |

Xvid and Divx are almost the same. Probably more than 90% of xvid's work on divx players. Xvid is Divx spelled backwards.

To add to what others have said here, upconverting a Divx file would not yield better results. I believe that most Divx files were encoded from lossy source to begin with and not from the lossless master tapes. DVD video is compressed; Divx compresses it further. So it's an exercise in futility to want a better resolution because the files you got have already thrown away lots of useful video information.
