Default Fantastic Four review (High-Def Digest)

Fantastic Four

Quote:
"The source material is in excellent shape, with not a visible speck of dirt or the like. Blacks are perfect throughout, and contrast consistent across the entire grayscale. The image is also not overly harsh; contrast is a bit hot at times, but nothing unusual in today's world of computer-enhanced blockbusters. Detail is also strong, with a nice sense of depth even to long shots. The image is rarely flat or two-dimensional, so all in all, this is a nice one for Blu-ray."
Quote:
"So until we can have a real look at the lossless track on 'Fantastic Four,' the downgraded version does very nicely on its own. The film has quite lively sound design, with the kind of whiz-bang fun you'd expect from a big-budget comic book flick. Dynamics are excellent, with very natural and rich frequency response across the entire sonic spectrum. The .1 LFE really delivers some powerful deep bass frequencies, and I was impressed how the low end extends beyond just loud sound effects to the score and even the Thing's more intense growls. Surround use is active and engaging, with the bridge attack and Doctor Doom battle sequences particularly effective."

I didn't plan on picking this one up, but from the positive review, I might have to. I tried watching it on HBO HD a few months back, but the macroblocking was way too severe for me to deal with, glad to see now I can get a wonderful viewing experience via BD.

I'm really growing weary of the negative things thrown in Blu-ray reviews for the sake of throwing them in. Take this Fantastic Four review for example. It is a solid transfer it appears, yet the gripe they give and the bottom line they give--OVERPRICED. I already made it known my disagreement in the forums over there over the OVERPRICED label as they were basing this off of the list price or MSRP. Funny thing I find though, is there is no mention of this same thing--that is discs being overpriced--that I see from HD DVD movies that have the same list price at around $40.

A good example here would be King Kong whose list price is the same as F4, yet, there is no gripe in regards to list price. I just find the complaints for some Blu-ray reviews ringing hollow, as it seems they are complaints for the sake of being negative toward the format.

Anyhow, just my opinion,...had to get it off my chest.
