In all honesty, I've found that the factory presets are pretty good. I use standard and User for normal tv, Dynamic (fixed) for sports, and movie for BD.
My settings for User are: (I think a mixture from cnet, AVS and Sony calibration tool on Casino Royale) OPC off Backlight -13 Contrast +32 Brightness -6 Color +11 tint -3 Sharpness -10 Crack is right though, this may not be optimum for your size set. Good Luck |

I have a Sharp LC 52D62U and I have been researching calabration myself. My Blu Rays (Samsung 1400) look great, but don't have that 3D look that the BLu Ray display at the Sony store or Target has. I spoke with the salesperson at Video Only (where I bought the TV and Blu Ray) and he told me it will actually look worse to have it calibrated. I also spoke with Best Buy and they quoted me $300.00 to have it calibrated professionally. Will professionally calibrating the TV really make it look that much better? Is it worth the $300?
Any help is appreciated |

calibration is adjusting the TV to intended geometric and color accuracy. a professional calibration is the best and closest you will get to exact color and geometric shape. In no way could it make it look worse, if done correctly. Now doing it yourself without understanding what needs to be done, can make it look bad...maybe thats what he ment? I suspect he was talking about something else. Some people want their image to jump out of the screen, they don't care about 6500K and color accuracy. To the untrained eye a calibrated set can indeed look worse. The same thing happens with professional loudspeakers. Some of them are too accurat for the music lover who doesn't care about a linear frequency response. |

![]() What settings do you currently watch tv/movies on? I'm referring to the 'AV Mode' in the flip part of the remote (what a horrible place to put that). |

I also think this "3-d" issue has to do with these demo discs...Im not sure the specs on the discs (in my head) im thinking that because they are demo and not full length, they have less compression...which would lead to a better looking picture...and this is why so many people always talk about the amazing 3-d look in the store. but I could be wrong. |

Get a copy of digital video essentials. It has served me and my brother very well for the last 6-8 years. It's not as good as a ISF calibration but it doesn't cost anywhere near as much either.
![]() http://www.videoessentials.com/products_main.php We use the one at the bottom. FYI there is HD versions coming out for HD-DVD and Blu-ray in March. Quote:

im not certain. I think its less compression being used...but again, I dont know?
(im sure these sets today like the XBR4 make it look even better...but for some reason the demos have always looked 3-d while the actual movie not so much...) Last edited by crackinhedz; 01-30-2008 at 12:14 AM. |

I remember back before this whole format war was really going on...I was looking at the HD-DVD demo Chronicles of Riddick, and the picture was so real...made me go and buy a hd-dvd add on. Obviously I quickly learned my mistake after learning about bluray, but I always thought that demo had a very 3-d look.
but thank god I sold the HD-DVD (pardon my language) add on and got a ps3.. |

The sales rep told me he had a $300.00 calibration done at his home and he thought it looked better before. Now that I know that most people are not getting that almost creepy 3D effect, I won't worry too much about it. I just felt like I was not getting the picture like I should be getting from those ddemo discs. It could also have to do with the 60hz v/s 120hz. When my wife and I bought the TV, we did not do much research and bought the TV we thought had the best picture in the store (my bad - although it does have a really great picture). |
