USA Monster From Green Hell (1957) (The Film Detective Special Edition) - March 8th, 2022

The Film Detective will be releasing the Sci-fi B-movie Monster From Green Hell (1957) on Blu-ray on March 8th. The film will include a commentary track, and color booklet.

Quote:
Extras:
  • Missouri Born: The Films of Jim Davis, an all-new career retrospective with author/film historian C. Courtney Joyner
  • The Men Behind the Monsters, an essay by author Don Stradley featured in a full color booklet
  • Commentary with artist/author Stephen R. Bissette
  • Includes both widescreen (1.85:1) and full frame (1.33:1) versions
Quote:
From the era of giant bugs and atomic testing comes this low budget howler about mutant wasps. When scientists try to understand the effects of radiation on earth creatures, the result brings them to an area of Africa known as "Green Hell," where wasps have mutated into monsters! Jim Davis, who would someday star in the TV series Dallas, plays Dr. Quent Brady, the scientist who starts the whole mess. The film also stars Vladimir Sokoloff (The Life of Emile Zola, Mission to Moscow) as the skeptical Dr. Lorentz, and Joel Fluellen (Raisin in the Sun), as Arobi, who warns Brady to beware of the African location. The locals don't call it "Green Hell" for nothing! Co-written by Louis Vittes, who gave us the classic, I Married a Monster From Outer Space.

I was just thinking about this film a few weeks ago, thinking it would be forever stuck under Wade William's thumb. Amazing news.

I'm absolutely stunned at this news. I've never seen MONSTER FROM GREEN HELL, but I'm well aware of it. DAY ONE!

I also concur with the other comments with the hopes that this news will open the door to other Wade Williams Collection films.
Personally, I'd like to see the following brought to Blu-Ray (and a 4K transfer on any of these would be a cherry-on-top):

TRANSATLANTIC TUNNEL (1935)
INVADERS FROM MARS (1953)
TARGET EARTH (1954)
KRONOS (1957)
THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS (1958)
THE CRAWLING EYE (1958)
HIDEOUS SUN DEMON (1959)

Never seen this one, but I'm in! Never met a 50's sci-fi movie I didn't like!

Hope it’s got the color sequences/shots intact. Now, bring on NAVY VS THE NIGHT MONSTERS (and include the Tom Weaver commentary track that wasn’t used when the dvd was cancelled ages ago).

I never knew about that. I have the Cheesy Flicks Dvd and the PQ is horrendous. Do you know why it was canceled? I guess it could be because the movie is terrible, haha. It could have been a decent B movie monster flick if the producer hadn't taken control and added the comedy bits. He really ruined what could have been a much more fun "bad" film.

I would buy it on blu in a heartbeat though. I love Mamie Van Doren and the monster effects are pretty entertaining, especially when the guy gets
[Show spoiler]his arm torn off
.

I too have never seen Green Hell but I will be getting this as I will all the Wade Williams releases, since there are so many I want on blu, I need to support this line. I just watched my copy of Frankenstein's Daughter and loved it. It looked and sounded great as well. I can't wait to see what else Film Detective has for us...

With Wade Williams, who has been notoriously difficult to deal with regarding licensing his titles, he's obviously getting older, he may have finally realized it's better to get SOMETHING rather than nothing, and has now made several of these deals with Film Detective. Hope they keep coming!!!!

Susan Hart should join in, but I think she's super-rich, so she just doesn't give a hoot about the Arkoff films she's holding hostage.

Extras added. It'll include both widescreen, and full frame versions.

It's definitely on Youtube and other trailer compilations. I think it was on the All Monsters Attack trailer DVD.

Then they need to add the trailer to the extras. There are no excuses.

Regarding the reviews take on the color shot of the people. Some people have said that they had a red glow from the lava. If it indeed was red, they may have color corrected it to remove the red. Another thing I heard - after the color eruption footage the screen is tinted pink. I've only seen this in Black and White so I don't know what is true other than there is some color soothe.

Seems to be $7.99 with the coupon again. I just bought it. Too bad it's missing the Elvira segments (I remember she did some sort of revival special of her show that featured this and Navy Vs the Night Monsters when I was a kid), but hey.
