im thinking of finally setting up a static ip address for my ps3 in order to hopefully avoid most network errors, will i need to set up a static ip for my router as well, and make sure all the comps connected to it are running on a static ip?

Your router will already have a static IP. When you say avoid network errors, what do you mean? You shouldn't need static IPs on any of your PCs or PS3s unless they are a form of server, and even in that case you can get around it.

On a PC, there's some software and games that need weird things like port forwarding in some cases, and that's where a static IP is useful. |

Even if your router is setup to do DHCP, you can still assign a static IP to your PS3. The PS3 will just request that particular IP whenever it talks to the router, so it's best to put it higher up in your IP range. For example, if your router assigns IP's on 192.168.1.1xx, and you've got 2-3 wireless devices, it's safe to say they'll probably get assigned 192.168.1.101-103 by DHCP. So set the PS3 to something like 192.168.1.120 and you'll be good.

my ps3 always signs me off with a network error, unless i am playing an online game i usually dont have very long before it'll give me an error, also im stuck with a NAT type 3. i heard that a static ip would fix most of these problems

You could do that, or possibly put your PS3 in the DMZ, if your router has that function. It's not like it's hackable or anything.
