Default Resurrection (2022, Rebecca Hall, Tim Roth starring)

Quote:
Margaret's life is in order. She is capable, disciplined, and successful. Everything is under control. That is, until David returns, carrying with him the horrors of Margaret's past.

Been hearing about this out of Sundance. Lots of reviews describe it as something pretty nuts and a great addition to the "Rebecca Hall Goes Crazy" subgenre.

Sounds interesting potentially if it is more about psychological conflict. At first I thought this was linked to Matrix Resurrections for a second.

Shudder and IFC have picked up the rights.

Bah, I'm stuck with two mainstream theaters that barely get anything wild save for a few exceptions like the he B&W cut of Nightmare Alley and MEN. We also got X but that's about it. Funnily enough, the theater that played the last two I mentioned would use to go for some really out there choices (like Moonlight, Parasite, Swiss Army Man, Portrait of a Lady On Fire, etc) to play things but ever since it reopened last year, they've lost their touch in this regard unfortunately.

That's too bad. You're definitely probably screwed on the chances of them getting this then. I generally have to travel a ways for some of the more limited releases that I want to see. I kind of like when there's not many wide releases coming out so mine gets more of the indie movies. I don't know how far you'd be willing to travel for one but are there any other theaters that aren't all that far away that get these kind of movies?

There is but unfortunately, I'm bus-bound. It sucks. I guess I could take a train but that'd be excessive imo.

My local theaters are not getting this but that's OK since it will be available to stream next week (August 5). Vengeance is opening this week to multiple theaters here.

Well this was... a movie. I like weird movies but this felt weird just for the sake of being weird. If there was some hidden meaning to it I didn't get it. Once it's sort of revealed what's going on I couldn't take it seriously. I was hoping there would be some twist and what I thought was happening wasn't actually what was happening but no such luck. It's definitely different and I give it credit for taking risks but it didn't work for me. Rebecca Hall does give a great performance. There's a monologue that was 5-10 minutes long and it's the highlight of the movie. I got excited because I had no idea where it was going after that and things seemed promising. Unfortunately for me it did not live up to that promise.

I guess I'll go with a C/C+.

This came and went. I love Rebecca Hall and Tim Roth together in a movie. May peep this on digital.
