Default Box-Office Showdown (5/6-5/8) Dr. Strange and the Multiverse of Madness

How large a spell will Dr. Strange cast this weekend?

Somewhere between 150 and 200.

Have a feeling it will be closer to 200.

Let's say 177 just for fun.

How much will it fade next week?

Dr. Strange will have zero superhero competition until Thor 4 in JULY, and the next big franchise blockbuster is Jurassic World 3 over a month from now. It won't do Spider-Man money, but it will definitely outgross The Eternals by a large margin. Billion+ guaranteed worldwide.

I'm going $198.5M but Disney will fudge it to $200M.

Feeling like this could definitely blow past the 200M mark.

I'm really curious how much word of mouth will push up receipts next week... depending on how bonkers this movie is.

2022 is the Year of the Cumberbatch.

The fact that this is following up on elements from the wildly popular Far From Home, the acclaimed first D+ MCU series (WandaVision) and will probably be used to tease tons of upcoming characters means it will have a huge opening weekend, and won't have much of a fall-off afterwards due to lack of competition. I mean, the weekend after Dr. Strange the biggest release is a remake of Firestarter, and Top Gun 2 won't open for two weeks after that.

Well, this is for sure going to be the bigger hit of the two Multiverse movies that will be playing in theaters.

But will this one have a zero-percent box office decline in its second week?

It definitely would, if it played on the same number of screens

This is a pretty interesting Wiki entry on 2nd weekend box office numbers and which films have done the best.

It helps to open around a holiday, unsurprisingly.

I don't see why people should be surprised that a movie with lots of spoilers should be enormously front-loaded, most fans will rush on opening weekend so they can be safe from spoilers.

There is no way that Disney will allow this to open lower than The Batman. They're going to pre-determine the outcome, even if that means buying every ticket.

I'll go with $160 million.

We still on this trip, huh? Especially if we're to actually believe that Disney/Marvel is even the slightest bit threatened by absolutely anything WB/DC does at this point.

Hope this was sarcasm. The movie has been outpacing Batman since the day tickets went on sale lol.

More of the usual bullshit about Disney cheating and buying tickets. Nothing ever changes.
