5 or 6 years ago this used to be the most popular mmorpg on the market. Then it just sort of faded out. I cannot believe Sony has not expressed any interest in bringing this franchise over to PS3. As wildly popular as the pc version was, I figured it would be a no brainer for PS3.

I played for a year and then quit. Like a lot of the mmorpgs I got left in the dust level-wise because I had a job and a life. I don't recall any anti-poopsocking rewards existing in everquest so it was really bad. I can't tell you how many times I was playing that game and someone would say "I just got fired; I guess I have more time to play". Anyone who has ever played a mmorpg or seen the Warcraft episode of South Park knows what this is about. I never want to see or hear of Everquest again. ![]() |

World of Warcraft dominated them seriously. I doubt we'll see the Everquest franchise return to the fore-front of MMOs anytime soon. It'd be nice, but I doubt it'll happen (they'd need another game, and another approach, and someway to get back Goodwill). |

I don't care if these games or fun or not, but it's undeniable how many lives they ruin. I realize at some point there is personal responsibility involved, and if you can't quit, then you need to realize it and ask for help. I know a kid who is 22 years old, never went to college, has been living at home since he graduated high school. He doesn't work, and all he does is play WOW. Yes, his parents are total idiots for letting him live this way but still. These games ruin lives, that is all.

Although I loved EQOA:F for awhile. I wouldn't mind them going that route again. |

Hell yeah they ruin lives.... or maybe social lives I was hooked on Asheron's Call, we rerolled a dagger char decked out in prepatch GSA who was max level. Could have sold the account for 2 grand. Microsoft deleted my account without warning because our log-in name into MS Zone was "SofaKenGood". It's not even a bad word, just sounds like it.
In the end I'm glad it was deleted. I'd still be playing 3 years later... |

SOE needs to garner alot of goodwill to get a good online game going again. Which, oddly enough, with MMOs, goodwill only comes about from providing a good online game. People like to kvetch about the CS of various different MMOs, but the thing is, they pretty much all boil down to the same general level. Quote:
The trick is not to try to keep up with people you can't. That only leads to frustration on your part or to IGE... Both of which aren't good. Just play the game at your pace [if you can, some paces aren't well suited for different games, unforunately], and don't worry about keeping up with the joneses unless you're in a Tier 1. |

The game doesn't ruin the life. Some other factor (environmental, psychological) ensures that the life will be ruined by something. The game is just the current outlet. |

I play EverQuest II regularly, I find it much more fun than WoW, but yes in terms on market share, World of Warcraft is untouchable, which is why you wont ever hear about any other MMO in general conversation, or advertising, or online unless you actively look for it.
Well you might hear about Second Life, but seriously that's not a real MMO. |

I loved EQOA, but I had it when I was younger and when my mom stopped paying for it, I couldn't play anymore. I tried to get back into it later, but everyone was far more advanced than I was in level. Just wasn't fun. Once MMORPGs come to the PS3, I'll be sure to get involved. The Agency certainly looks good.

I've been playing Everquest2 for three years now, and before I go any further I would like to mention that I have yet to reach max level. Me and my wife enjoy our adventures into the world of Norrath, without letting our personal lives suffer. She works, I go to school full time/work part time, in moderation an MMOG can be a great experience.

I used to play Dark Age of Camelot and EVE but after a few months it sort of got boring for me. I did the trial of WoW but it felt the same as the other two mentioned. I just don't find it fun running around doing these little mini-quests, trading, killing for XP... it just becomes very repetitive. And I'm not into the socializing in games since most of my experience has been immature kids or adults who are on 18 hours a day. No thanks.

I have a sibling like that too. He has been holed up in my parents house for 10 years now playing this crap. He's in his forties. Really sad. It started with EQ and now it's WoW. |

I used to play EQ for about 2 years, back in the 02-04ish years. Was in the top raiding guild on my server, and boy that was some fun gameplay.
Some of you guys think you got tactics doing 16 on 16 SOCOM battles (or w/e it is, havent played the game), try coordinating a raid of over 80-100 players. On top of that, try "racing" another guild to a boss monster; fun stuff. those who played the high-end game would know what I'm reffering to. anyways, Everquest was MUCH of a better game in it's prime than WoW will ever be. Though wow is more for the average joe type player who doesn't really have to go through much of a time sink, thats why it probally appeals to the public much more. Anyways, believe it or not, i ended up selling my level 65 shadowknight in '04, for over $2k. A guess is a nice sum, but still that incentive doesn't replace the time i wasted playing the game. |
