Default Which is a better choice for receiver?

Hello Everyone! This is my first post and I have a few questions. I have a Sony BPD-S1 player and I love it. I am getting a Klipsch surround sound system. Probably the RF-82 or 63's. I have always heard that Yamaha and Klipsch go together beautifully. But I also was looking at the the sony line of receivers. Since I have a Sony 55 in LCD Hidef TV. I just thought that the logical choice would have been a Sony Receiver and keep it all in the family. Am I thinking backwards or not?

Please for the sake of your Klipsch don't go Sony; their receivers are terrible. You'll be much, much happier with Yamaha; and so will your speakers.

I paid $1200.00 for it when it first came out. My buddy picked one up on Amazon for $750.00 a month ago.

I'm the one who is jealous!!!

Onkyo 605. 705, 805: all good and recommended.

Onkyo, Yamaha, Denon, Harmon Kardon... they're all better than Sony.

I second that vote. The Onkyo 805 is best for futureproofing your sound system. The Onkyo 705 is a very worthy investment too if you want to save a very small amount of cash in comparison.

I never new that Onkyo was in the market for things of that nature. What are the benefits to the Onkyo over the Yamaha. I have had yamaha in the past. And they seem to last forever. Is Onkyo quality good or am I going ot have to get another reciever in a few years.

The Sony ES line of receivers is not a bad way to go. Not a fan of Yamaha but they are good. I was thinking Denon or Marantz would do the trick or possibly an Elite Pioneer. Pioneer makes some good stuff in the high end equipment. It all depends on how much you want to spend.

I spent an entire month of obsessing over the yamaha RX-V1800 and the Onkyo 805. I ultimately went with the 805. They both sport pretty much the same characteristics, but the 805 is THX certified. I think the Yamaha probably would be too, but you need to pay royalties for that kind of certification. They are both excellent recievers, but the Onkyo won in the end for me. I have never even so much as glanced at another reciever since then!

I've got the 2308CI, and I second Barnum's opinion. I love my Denon receiver.

I too would suggest Denon. I have had my Klipsch reference system hooked up to a Yamaha receiver and it sounded unnatural. Conversations and movie soundtracks were terrible. I changed first to a sony and the improvement was minor. I then tried the Denon and have now bought a second receiver for the bedroom and it is great. I also found that in my 14 x 20 theater I need more power than any under $1000 unit could deliver without clipping when movies got really loud. As the Klipsch speakers are very efficient they should not need that much power, I found it had more to do with how the less expensive units bridge their amps for so many channels.

Hey, new to the site. I'm looking at picking up the Pioneer Elite VSX-92TXH in the next month or so. I'm starting to wonder if I should consider looking into the Onyko receivers. Is there much of a difference between them? Say the 705 or the 805 and the 92TXH. I've had my eye on the Pioneer for a long time but if I can get an Onyko that does the same thing for less I might have to reconsider. I'm at work so don't really have time to look at specs for myself.

As a proudly new owner of the Onkyo 805 I can safely say this receiver is simply amazing! The other models (605 and 705) look to be great too if the 805 is out of your price range. They're all fantastic electronics but I definitely place my vote on the 805 along with so many others!

Hey, how much is the 805 selling for? The Pioneer Elite I'm looking at is about $1000. Where did you purchase the 805? I couldn't find it on bestbuy or futureshop websites.

Denon gets my vote as well. I had two Sony ES receivers (including this years 3300ES model) before I got my Denon 2808CI last October, and there's simply no comparison-the Denon blows them away in both build quality and pure sound quality. Good luck and hope you enjoy whatever you go with!
